Okay, in the interests of getting the meeting on the 28th March 'off the ground' and keeping the replies separate from the last gathering in Brighton, we have ourselves a new 'topic'...

STOP-PRESS!

Meeting on 28/3/04 is now to be at the Seven Stars pub (on the A272) on the west side of Petersfield:-

* Meet at Pease Pottage Services (A23) by 10.30 am.
* A23 (southbound) to Bolney Village junction.
* A272 to Petersfield.
* A272 from Petersfield towards Stroud/Winchester.
* Go through Stroud.
* Pub is located on the left-hand side.

Large car park.
Serves food all day from 12 noon!
Children welcome.

ETA Seven Stars pub approx 12.15/12.30 pm.

SEE PAGE 5 FOR MORE DETAILED PLAN OF ROUTE.

Edited 24/3/04.

Now I know cacatous will undoubtedly be disappointed that a visit to Harry Ramsdens is not on the planned menu, but Mel has come up with the following suggestion:

May i suggest a nice run to the pub at the top of Devils Dyke?

It was my first choice for the Brighton Burble but MM came up with another suggestion for a longer run.

The pub has a fantastic car park and food is easy etc as its a chain with a very large bar area and a kiddie amusment area should you have any of the blighters.

The pub car park also gives the most amazing view from the top of the (large) hill.

The roads around it are fun too for a nice long convoy.

What is the general consensus of opinion regarding the above?

Big Al and I have another suggestion, if you're interested, but it involves a run much further west to Petersfield.

So do we want to stay local in Brighton or go further afield?

The alternative I can think of to staying in/around Brighton is going to The Seven Stars pub on the A272 near Petersfield. The drive over there from the Brighton area will be relatively straight forward and presumably easier to stay in a 'convoy'! Perhaps we could arrange various locations to meet up with others en route.

Shnozz, you've been to this pub, would you recommend it for another PH meet?

Any other suggestions are more than welcome

As walsingham rightly pointed out, the run up to the pub on Devils Dyke from Brighton is very short.

Well I think that's a definite thumbs up for our venue being the "Seven Stars" pub on the A272, Petersfield, on 28th March.

As most of you will already know, the pub is open from 12.00 noon and serves food from that time. If I get an idea of numbers, I'll see if I can book some tables. In any event, I shall give them prior warning that they can expect to be a little busier than usual on that day!!

Glad to hear your lot will hopefully be joining us Nick (ncs). Perhaps we can meet up at Pease Pottage Services again and then link up with Big Al and the others en route. We'll sort out what's best to do in the next week or so but I would anticipate being at PPS for approx. 10.30 am.

Looking forward to meeting you .Mark!

I shall be going straight to Pease Pottage Services from Haywards Heath. If anybody lives in or around Brighton and wants to meet up somewhere down there beforehand with others from the immediate area, then I would suggest that the best bet is for them to make a local arrangement.

What other pub? Ben, I'm thinking of the one where everyone went for the Portsmouth/Southampton meet arranged by Mungo. Big Al knows which one I mean, perhaps he can confirm...

I'm afraid I won't have a spare seat this time, sorry Hmm...unless I bring the Audi A3

Matt (ropey), that's a shame but it was nice to see you on the 7th. Next time, maybe!

cacatous...I hope you're not sulking I'm sure the pub will do fish and chips, not in the same league as Harry Ramsdens but a compromise, surely?! And get that Anita to come along and bring her Tamora!

Huh? Roz...this and Roz...that

Yup that's fine by me renaming the topic so long as people don't get confused and wonder where the 'Brighton Burble Return' has gone!!

Nick (ncs)...I asked Big Al to contact you on my behalf to ask about numbers in your party. Any idea at this stage? And will you be able to make Pease Pottage by 10.30 am? We're going to pick up Big Al on the way

I was going to have a blast (in the Audi ) out to the pub during the week but didn't have time to do so. I'll probably get over there sometime this weekend and will let them know what's happening on the 28th and find out details about booking tables (if poss) etc. And I'll check if fish n chips are on the menu

Al - which way are we going

MM...you don't seriously expect Big Al to be your navigator?! Hmm, unless he brings his Smart, I think that has SatNav! Otherwise I'd rely on Mike_e OH so long as he remembers not to use the southbound lane of the A24 to travel north!!

Mungo...thanks for that

Okay, I've had a word with the manager of the Seven Stars pub to forewarn him and he's looking forward to seeing us!! Btw, you can't book tables and children are welcome. I would suggest the following plan:-

* Meet at Pease Pottage Services at 10.30 am.
Assemble on the far side of the car park near the exit.

* Take the A23 (southbound!). Exit at junction for Bolney Village (IIRC also signposts the A272 Cowfold/Billingshurst/Petersfield).

* Take the A272 to Petersfield.

We'll pick up Big Al et al at Bucks Barn Services (where the A24/A272 cross-over between Cowfold and Coolham). There will probably be insufficient parking here for all of us so I'll ring Big Al en route to warn him of our impending arrival whereupon he can link up without us having to stop there!

Petworth is a little tricky. Keep driving through until you reach the mini roundabout (car showroom on left) and turn right towards Midhurst (A272).

At Midhurst keep an eye out for the sign to turn right for Petersfield (it's been knocked a tad!).

Approaching Petersfield there's a Rover garage on the left (White Rose) and immediately following that a
roundabout. Go straight over to Petersfield and follow the lane for Stroud/Winchester (A272 or may also signpost the A32...sorry, unfamiliar territory!). Once you come out of Petersfield there'll be a large roundabout with services on your right and the A3 overhead. Go straight over towards Stroud/Winchester (A272/A32).

Basically don't deviate from the A272!

The pub is on the left after you've gone through Stroud (which is just the other side of Petersfield).

Cheers .Mark I was panicking there for a sec! Who needs SatNav when you have a Roz!

The ETA depends on when we leave Pease Pottage but I'd say it'll take a good hour to get to the pub. The route is brill but unfortunately it attracts Sunday drivers not wanting to exceed 40 mph which is more painful than tooth extraction!

So, if we leave PPS by 11.00 am at the latest, hopefully we'll arrive at approx 12.15 pm. It would have been better to be at the pub earlier for parking purposes (altho' it has a large parking area) but we have to bear in mind that ncs (Nick) is coming from Kent.

Come along, it'll be good to meet you

Evo...just a thought, if you'd rather meet Big Al at Bucks Barn Services to join up with those of us coming from Pease Pottage, then that's fine!
