Cholmondeley Pageant of Power: 15-17 July

Special PH ticket offer available for this fantastic event

The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, otherwise known as CPoP (not to be confused with pop legends Hanson's classic 90s hit MMMBop) is, according to the organisers, the UK's biggest celebration of power and speed, taking in the glamorous surroundings of Cholmondeley Castle and adding a host of PH-worthy activities.

CPoP reminds us of how Goodwood used to be, and you can't help but draw comparison between the two events, such is the similarity of the formats, but Cholmondeley manages to retain a feeling of intimacy and charm that has been lost as the Goodwood Festival grows, but here the smaller crowds and less commercial feel help to create a unique atmosphere.

The drivers don't hold back here either, with the lap record being the time everybody wants to beat on the day, and that means some fantastic action can be seen trackside.

Of course, great display cars are what make events like this and CPoP doesn't disappoint on that front. Already confirmed cars include:

  • Mercedes Benz 300SL 'Gullwing'
  • Maserati Tipo 61 'Birdcage'
  • Team Lotus Type 25, chassis R4
  • Ford GT40
  • Porsche 917K Gulf
  • Lancia Delta Integrale WRC
  • Jordan F1 EJ13
  • Ferrari 458 GT3
  • Stirling Moss's Lotus 18
  • Jackie Stewart's Tyrell 002
  • Auto Union Type C
  • Bentley's Ice Speed Record Continental Supersports convertible
  • Bentley Speed 8 (won Le Mans in 2003)
  • New Nissan GT-R
  • Ariel Atom V8
  • Low Drag Lightweight Jaguar E-Type (as featured in PH POTW)

Unlike other car events CPOP also features air displays, motorcycles and boat events in addition to rally cars and trade stands. Extra features include:

  • Large private helicopter show
  • Helicopter 'pleasure flights' above the estate
  • Motorbikes throughout the ages
  • Powerboat displays on the lake
  • Rally stage (mentioned above)
  • British Army combat power display (with actual explosions)
  • Shopping area

By now, you will know that being a PHer brings additional benefits over and above having access to our great site and as a result we have asked the CPoP team to look after you accordingly. If you want to attend this event, we are pleased to be able to offer you a special discounted ticket rate.

You can get the Club Adult 3 Day Paddock Enclosure & Concert Pass for £50 (children £25, when this ticket normally costs £85 and includes the firework display on Saturday evening. To book mention/use booking code CPOP3PH

We can also offer the Club Adult Paddock Enclosure Day Passes at £17 (children £5) - these can be claimed by using code CPOPPH

A special PistonHeads parking area can be arranged if the demand is there, so to help us plan for this please comment on the attached forum thread if you purchase a ticket and would like to park with other PHers.

General event information:

CPoP takes place from 15-17th July (Friday to Sunday) on the Cholmondeley Estate near Malpas, Cheshire (about 20 minutes from Crewe)

Gates open at 8am every day

Evening of Saturday 16th plays host to a fireworks concert, with charitable donations going to Combat Stress (in the charity's own words, 'the UK's leading military charity specialising in the car of veterans' mental health') - the concert raised over £75,000 for Help for Heroes in 2010

Pop along to www.cpop.co.uk for information, ticket booking, etc, or call 01829 772 432

Tickets have been ordered

What's the situation with parking? Is it a case of leave your motor in the middle of a muddy / dusty field (like at the Goodwood FoS) or is there a better option?

Anyone camped there? I'm contemplating taking the family - wife and 2 boys - 3 & 2 years old. And am just wondering what the facilities are like and whether 2 very young boys will have plenty of space to run around in once in the venue?

I didnt camp as I only live 10 miles away, but we drove past the site and it looked well set up even with a snack bar. Once inside the event there is loads of room for the kids and although busy you can always get a decent view of the track (assuming it's not all of a sudden 10x busier this year!)

I would recommend it to all Ph'ers who have never been, although like most shows a lot depends on the weather....take some wellies and a brollie.....biggrin

If you go Friday, check out the Sporting Bears area at Lodge corner where we are offering charity passenger rides in cars to help Childrens Charity The Wingate Centre. Friday we will have around 8 cars, Saturday and Sunday around 30 cars. Maybe your mates can club together for your donation?

What cars will be there? I heard there is going to be an Ultima GT-R.

Most probably attending! Have been the last three years and always thought it was amazing. Last year we had to leave the Lomax amongst the other "normal" cars which I was a little wary of. If there is a PH car area this year will deffinately park there though (if I'm allowed tongue out).

I'll update when I buy the tickets when it's cleared in the diary. biggrin

We're planning on being there with the Deronda. Unfortunately likely to be static but if we can get on the circuit we'd love to give it a blitz

Not sure what else will be there, but there will (subject to disaster) be an Ultima GTR there from about lunchtime on Saturday and again on Sunday. Get saving - there's a load of cars as good and better than the Ultima there to tempt you and all the donations go to a great cause.

We camped the first year it was run, 2008 maybe?? ..with three daughters, aged 5, 7 and 9.

Space and facilities were good, however the disco across the lake less so, loud music till 1am, then loud shouting and swearing, the drunkards were not happy when the music went off.
