Not A lot of progress lately engine wise, as I have been concentrating on getting the body etc sorted out ready for the paint shop.

Just booked the engine it a vibration free for a full balance, then when I am next home from work, I can start with the build....smile

cheers

Ok so spent the day at vibration free yesterday - very intresting to watch the balancing process.

The rods & pistons were not too bad, the rods being 2.1grm out and pistons 1.2g out, but they are now all the same.

The engine was then built up and run on the vibration bench, this resulted in 4.5 gram being removed from the flywheel & 38grm being added to the crank pulley in order to reduce the vibration to effectivly nothing.

The crank pulley was from a different variant of the engine, so no surprise that it needed a big adjustment.

Here is the engine in the process of being balanced.

Back to the bodywork now as the car is off to th epaint shop in a week!

Cheers

I assume you dont knacker the bearings doing that?

No the bearings survive.... A good coating of assembly lube on one shell and oil on the other protects them during the running of th eengine. Just to be safe though i did use the old shells.

Its only run at 350 -390 rpm as that is sufficient to do the balancing....

Just found this thread, very cool project, very noce engine, i owned a 156 GTA and the noise it made with a supersorint exhaust was to die for! I was going to suggest the nobles ford V6, more than a handful now with 600 bhp and my one will be finished next week with about 550bhp. Can't wait to drive it!

The Engines are great - Hopefully this one will keep the "noise" even with the turbo - the noble V6 I did consider, but in the end the pull of keeping an itarian engine in an Italian styled Car won!

Been doing a bit of painting of the chassis ready to send the car off to have the body work painted next week, so while watching paint dry I have revisited the Steering wheel.

Mada a Spacer so i can keep the centre horn push with the Quick release boss & made up an alloy plate to hold 6 wheel switches..

At The moment I have switches for.
Launch Control
Map Select
Tacho Display Select
Data Logging
Flat Shift on/off

And a spare - not sure what to use that for, but no doubt somthing will crop up when I get the car on the road.

surely that spare one will be for the anti-chav lasers ??? ;-)

(or judging by the probably performance with 500bhp, maybe you'll need some sort of anti-scamera "cloaking" device ??)

It has been suggested that I should save it for the future when I fit NOS - No current plans for that, but who knowssmile

The Cloaking device could be a good idea though!

The car is now away at the paint shop, so been playing with the dash - I had planned to have it Yellow to match the paint on the car, but that was just too mucheek
So my second plan was to make a carbon dash, but the company selling the blanks have no stock & no plans to produce any morefrown
Option 3 was to cover the dash - I have covered it with real carbon flexible sheet, with 3m adhesive on the back. Its not as good as the real thing, but looks pretty goodsmile

Painting Is going well, seeing as it wasnt scheduled to start until next week!

Everything stripped off the car. Main tub, nose section, doors, boot etc. all primed. Guide coat now being applied to ensure no high spots when rubbing down for next stage.
Spoilers & lamp pod now being prepared for initial primer. Then rear body section.

Cheers

Quite a bit required...The switches on the steering wheel and the wheel itself will fail on sharp edges as will parts of the dash.
Not wanting to be a killjoy but these thing need that planning.
