try and find an engine that fits your requirement and then backwards engineer the piston design.

if your interested in the design (and the size/shape) of pistons that will take this rpm have a look at a small bike engine, the newer the better. my show you how a manufacturer has done it. also no point reinventing the wheel (wonder how many times that has been said in engineering????). also see if anyone is selling an old F1 piston. i have seen a few pics of some and they look ace. coatings are a good idea as it will let you run a a lighter ally and still allow high thermal loads.

ps. as for materials, have a look into Ti for the rod, the best i have seen so far.
