Still having problems with the Fabia, following the head gasket replacement the car has been running lumpy on idle, I have now been without the car for a week and today was informed that the cause of the problem was the nr3 injector (was told something along the lines of "pretty sure")

Could the injector have failed as a knock on effect from the head gasket failing? (some water getting into it or something??) Do the symptoms suggest it may be the injector?

The injector works out fairly expensive so I'm not sure I want to go ahead on a "pretty sure" comment, what happens if its not the problem? Should I be entitled not to pay?

If I knew what this car was going to cost me this month I would have cut my losses....

Any help much appreciated.

Ps. anyone know of a cheap source of VAG parts?

Injectors are quite common for failing on the later engined cars like yours, the only way to be 100% sure is to get your mechanic to swop the injector from the cylinder its in now (ie number 3) and swap it with another, once this has been done and the fault moves from that cylinder to another you know thats the culprit.

All a cylinder needs is compression, and fuel (no spark as its a compression engine, diesel), if you have these it cant be anything else.

If its the diesel engine then it'll be a PD with unit injectors, the possibility is that if the workshop tackling the head gasket arent familiar with the correct procedures and tolerances then you could be in for a very nasty bill, new injectors and even a cam shaft. The injectors are driven by the camshaft via followers and have a "setting" not an "adjustment" with the "tappets", I've seen a few "adjusted" after being disturbed and end up been ruined. The other thing most general garages miss on this engine is that the body of the injector is a filter, with 5 micron laser cut holes, just handling the injector clogs these holes and the injector is ruined. Try a Bosch Diesel specialist, they will understand the system fully.

If its a petrol then I'm talking out of my blunt end and will but out!!

Did you ever get this sorted? I have replaced the wiring looms on these lumps before as they are prone to failure, they are a short loom that runs inside the engine with the oil and connect to each injector.

Car now seems to be sorted, picked it up on Saturday after having the Injector replaced.

It was taken into VW for the work and I only had to pay for the Injector unit (which we picked up from a specialist £150 cheaper than VW) All the Labour was covered by the Garage smile It also had some other "set up" work done by VW.
