Help!I went to start my car and it sounded like the battery was flat. I know it's not but when I turned off the ignition it carried on on it's own. I undid the battery and all was well....apart from the smoke pouring from the starter motor. Can someone tell me why it carried on by itself and apart from the starter motor, does it have a separate solenoid as there are no signs on the motor itself? Also how much should I pay for one and where from?

Thanks,

John.

I do appologise for being a numb-skull. Yes it's a Ford x-flow. After I turned the ignition off and took the key out it was still trying to turn until I diconnected the battery. There is no current from earth to the positive lead that connects to the starter now when I turn the key.

Thanks.
