I've only had the '04 CV8 for a couple of weeks now.

I bought it because I loved the understated look of the CV8, and the grunt under the bonnet. I'm not a boy racer by any stretch, so the nostrils and spoilers on the 05's aren't really my cup of tea. What a car for the money though!!! Planning on exhaust upgrade, re-map, and ripshifter in '08.

So what made other Monaro owners buy one??

Tried to buy a new RS4 but got messed about by the dealer alot and was less than impressed bearing in mind I was spending 46K! Had a drive of the bosses VXR600 at Greens since they had a VXR500 coming in soon which I was interested in, just to see what all the hype was about and as a toy the 600 is soooooo much better value. Not the same quality as the Audi which was very very good although the Ro is not that bad really but the performance is so superior compared to the Audi its not worth comparing really (apart from in the wet! LOL) Got offered a deal to have the 600 and after a few minutes thinking a deal was done! thumbup

From the first time that I saw one knew that one day I would have one, didnt have the funds for a VXR so a CV8 was the choice,I havent looked back since(smilling every time I turn the key)Just wish that more people into cars would give them a go *****

I think the 5.7 or 6.0ltr engine puts people off due to the perceived MPG but in reality they are very good IMHO. 27mpg is quite acceptable to me.

Well, I fell in love with a VXR @ Donny North modified car show in June 2005. Just briefly looked over it and did not even bother speaking to the Vauxhall stand. At the time I was into my Hyundai Coupes and was showing my mint silver v6 on the Hyundai Coupe stand.

About December time I knew my car was coming upto MOT in March and was passing Slater's in North Wales. Had a look around the forcourt and liked the look of a Odyssey car (at this point my parents thought I had lost of the plot altogether). Anyway, a test drive in a brand new VY (04 model) and thought what the heck, the ultimate coupe), the Odyssey car was sold by this time but as it was the only VZ around the dealer started it up for me - well, that exhaust noise on the 05 sold it to me.

Picked up the car in Feb 2006 - have been loving/modding it since. Just wish the aftermarket bits were a lot cheaper !!

So bought it for a silly big engine, being the ultimate Coupe and the noise. Mine is a daily driver.

Cheers
Steven

I bought my 05 cv8 in August this year with 6000 miles on the clock and it's used almost every day.I love Muscle car's but they tend to be 30 to 40 years old! and not practical to say the least. The Monaro its'like an updated Muscle car without the old car problems. Love the style of all models I just wish it was cheaper to uprate the basics like exhaust and remaps, which are expensive when compared to American cars.

I rejected my alfa 159 because it was rubbish, the dealer offered me a deal on another Alfa or a Vauxhall as this is what he sold. My Dad has an identical car to mine and I liked his so I bought the Monaro.

Always had coupes since I passed my test many moons ago. The cars I've had have either been Capri's or Calibra's.

I was a confirmed Calibra fan (was owner of a late '96 V6 with all the toys) and I saw the Monaro as a 'pretender to the throne' and swore I'd never buy one.

However, watched Top Gear, heard the announcement of end of production, saw a pic of the VZ CV8, promptly changed my mind and off I trundled down to Slaters. Took the wife for her to compare the VY & VZ, she liked the VZ more, collared an innocent salesman who duly came out with the keys to a Silver VZ CV8 and let me start it up - pure heaven, never heard anything like it.

2 1/2 years later, still the best car I've ever owned and it's still pure joy to turn that ignition key.

Also, it's nice to be different....

Rebuilt a 72 Mustang many years ago that I had to sell to help the purchase of our first house around 84. Always promised I would return to something similar eventually. Tried all the usual hot hatch stuff but once bitten by a V8 they kinda stay under your skin. My CV8 is a daily driver and though I'm going to have to buy a towing mule this year I love it!cloud9

Had a EVO9 before great car blistering cross country speed, but it did not do cruise well and it had a questionable image my ro is full of character and is generally seen as a cool un usual car. And of course you cannot get more laid back if you just want to burble around.

Forgot to mention I also had a 1978 Rover SD1 V8 when I was 17. It had been in my family since new (I went to the garage with my Dad when I was 8 years old when he bought it). It cost me every penny I earned to fuel it but it was brilliant and loved it. After years of owning uninteresting shit boxes I decided I wanted another V8.
