Having spoken to a few people I gave the RAC another try. It would appear the first person I spoke to was wrong and I got a qoute which was not far of the a-plan. They also offer multiple car discount and as the wife and son are with them we all get a discount.

So I've ended up going with the RAC.

The Saga continues……… All was well till the policy doc’s arrived. It would appear that the RAC require a Thatcham Cat 1 immobiliser and Alarm. So I called the help desk as when I enquired they said the Factory fitted stuff would be fine. The very nice man on the help desk said that most modern cars are approved but that the Monaro was NOT on the list. He suggested I spoke with Vauxhall. Now the problems start!

A quick call to Vauxhall assist tells me that there is an Alarm fitted which is NOT Thatcham approved but according to the build of my 05 CV8 there is NO Immobiliser!!!! Now I cannot believe that as the handbook says there is, the website says there is and so does the Light on the dash say there is.

So I emailed them and I got the same reply back.

So I emailed again this time asking them to fit one at their cost as all the advertising suggests that there is one.

I get a reply

“ I have again contacted our Technical Department who have advised that actually there is an immobiliser in the above vehicle, it is just fitted in the way of a "chipped" transponder key. It is the car alarm that is the upgrade.

Thank you for contacting Vauxhall Motors and allowing me to clarify. “

Now this is a £350 dealer fit upgraded by Meta Alarms, which now makes the insurance a tad expensive. So a call to RAC to see if my tracker will be enough as no other quote required the alarm upgrade. Nope they insist its fitted within 30 days. So good bye RAC (still within the 14day cool off) and hello A-Plan.

Should have gone with them in the first place!
