Hi there SJC, long time no speak - have been on hols.
Will speak to you about a meet up on Wednesday at the Dick Turpin - A127 - think there will be quite a few HSV's but got to talk to Steve as he's finalising things today.
Glad you could get your insurance for £700.00 - Norwich Union quoted us £4,000.00!!!! Bearing in mind both my husband and I have clean licences and up to 9 years NCB each - God, I am ranting today!!! We ended up putting it on a fleet policy - phew!
At the time the car was an unclassified insurance group and most insurance companies don't know what you're talking about anyway when you mention HSV's. I understand that they now have an insurance grouping (although don't know which group it is).
SJC, will call you later today if you're in work. You got your car at work today?

Someone i know got a nice blue one. However its slightly different to most. Hes had Mark LVS fit a nitrous kit to it, no shit. And it goes like u wouldnt believe.
And i saw a nice red pick up hsv in Windsor the other day!! That looked quite mental!

Yep thats the one, little bit of a beast. Hes got a switch to arm the nitrous then hes just got to boot it and off he goes. Thought it was a bit crap at first, but the bottle only lasted him 3 weeks and after a refill its improved. Ill tell him to register and come on. But hes got a few more ideas in mind. First of all he wasnt bigger injectors, and hes also considering the supercharger. But not to sure yet. May either go for a gts-r first to get the extra 70bhp, or the new coupe hsv!
My friend Bushwacker informs me that you guys heard that I had a nitrous kit fitted to my GTS. I'm sure you want to know more so it is basically a kit designed specifically for the LS1 engine. Parts to complete the transition to the Holden came from Australia. It is a two-stage device so that it comes in gradually instead of like a sledgehammer. Once the bottle valve is opened, a button under the dashboard arms the system. The trigger is operated on the throttle - when you hit full throttle off you go - in any gear any where and for as long as you want. Particularly fun in 3rd-5th, but can get a little clutch slip in 6th as torque can increase by upto 70 per cent.
The bottle lasts 3-4 minutes, which is a lot because you only use it for a few seconds before you're going very quick - 10 seconds worth will probably see you through 3 gears. I rarely use it in 1st because you hardly notice the difference. However 2nd to 5th is very lively. Some places charge £130 to refil the bottle, however, a company in Essex does it for £75. The bottle is large - the size of an aqualung - as it was designed in California specifically for the LS1 engine. It holds 15 lbs of nitrous. The main factor is pressure. The bottle must be kept warm to keep the pressure high - more pressure = more nitrous going in = yee har! To do this I have ordered a bottle heater to keep the pressure around 900-950psi. In the mean time I carry a Bosch electric paintstripper/hot air gun and an extension lead, which does the job. If you want to have a go just name the place and time.
Maybe that day is not so far away. The guy in Essex who refils my bottle is fitting an average of three NOS kits each week.
And £3 is not alot when you run an HSV...on Brands Hatch it averaged 3mpg. Brake discs cost £600 and have to be replaced every two sets of £150 pads + tyres £600 + new exhaust £1,500 + new piston/valve £1,500 + power steering radiator....it's been a dear month
