To add to Greg's piece of mind, my 2004 CV8 Monaro has the same Starr s/charger (fitted by Linden and providing 10 PSi), with the base MAFless tune provided by Pomona. Only done 3,000 miles in it thus far, but its performance and driveability are excellent with no "pinking" issues on 97RON and higher.
Picking up a point from an earlier thread from Greg, it returns 26 mpg on a cruise, 22 mpg on most trips, limited around town to 17 and will drink fuel in a stationary jam.
Good to hear from another happy Linden S/Charged owner.
Greg, in this months EVO mag. there was a feature on fuel. SUL goes off fairly quickly & they experienced this with a few "duff" fill ups. Could be what happened with you?

Yep, I guess that could have caused it. I can't imagine there has been any significant damage done though since the car still pulls incredibly hard and there aren't any funny noises or misfires or rough idling or anything. Just a tapping noise when warm (only noticeable at idle) which I don't think is related. I would have thought that if one or two cylinders had been damaged, I'd notice something when accelerating hard...

I'd just keep an eye on it for now. I have seen an engine with a cracked piston still running strong even when down 20 psi in one cylinder. It tapped in the cylinder but the engine idled ok. It did let go rather spectacularily at 150 mph. Seems the nearside rear cylinders are the ones to watch. So, I'm not trying to worry you but if you do have any doubts I'd get the compression checked.

The fuel going off thing has been done on a few forums. There are occasions when my car has sat for months yet when returning to drive, I experienced no ill effects.

I'm pretty sure British Standards would apply to all fuels, and say they must retain any qualities they have for a considerable time.

And to HSVGTSCoupe.
Any engine can experience pinking and/or detonation if it isnt set up properly.

Havent you ever heard a Nova rattling away years ago ?

That's the one and yes. To check how tasty, search for mistermike's twin screw video in the forced induction section of the ls1gto.com site (from about Sept).

There's also a couple of videos and sound recordings of my car (Brian's at the time) on a dyno somewhere. I could not believe my ears when I heard that sound. Made me think of a fighter jet. If you haven't heard it, you should have a listen. It's an unbelievable noise.

Oh and of course the torque - 515lb-ft available from 2,300 rpm. That's the real beauty of the twin screw supercharger.

;->

Most of you have probably heard them already but those who haven't can go here:

Look for anything with "pomona" in the title. I think it's the long one (27MB) that's best.
