lovely car, currently scouring the web for classic muscle but are you garaging the car? I have no garage and that may be an issue

Thank you thumbup

Technically, it will fit in my garage, but I have a classic Mini Cooper in there and a washing machine and other bits.
It's not a good idea to keep classics out in the elements because they will deteriorate rapidly and I've discovered that the boot fills with water and the doors leak.
I have bought a very good multi-layer car cover for it, which fits perfectly. The car is 16'x6' and I'm happy to leave it under there whilst the weather is improving and will make sure to let it 'breathe' regularly. I'm lucky to have a neighbour a few doors up with a much bigger and unused garage and he has offered it to me for when there's a bad spell of weather and for winter storage, which is an absolute result.
Storing the car was one of my main concerns before buying it, so I'm pleased to have that sorted now.

Hello Gruffy, i was just going to ask about garaging it but whats posted above seems to cover that, without trying to sound like im asking stupid questions but what are you going to do with it exactly, i always thought you used the Monaro as a daily driver? Surely your not going to use this Mustang as such? Its not really my thing tbh but i can appreciate its a very old (its older than i am), well restored, rare and mint condition car. If it was mine id be tempted to stick in a heated garage/glass cabnet and wrap it up in cotton wool, id be sh!t scared to take it out on the road.

got an old mini too and yes you watch them rot even afer a full resto! I'm fancying something saucy for my 40th in a few years but no garage would be an issue, there is a great car storage facility near by and only 90pcm for fully a/c cover... its only 35 more than a council garage rent!

Hi Steve,

When the Monaro went, I bought a daily hack (cheers DreamToy), as my commute went from 4miles to 60miles!!! That's was one of the reasons I sold up.

I've always been a bit of a perfectionist with cars and like to look after them, as I'm sure most people on here do. It annoyed me that I had to use the Ro for run of the mill stuff and it'd get mucky just after I'd spent a whole day cleaning and polishing it, so I've vowed the Mustang is going to be used on dry days only so it will always be 'a sense of occasion' to get out in it.

The car is in great condition with mostly new parts, but it's definitely not a concours classic show piece. Get up close and you'll see the imperfections. It's a 40+ year old car and it certainly has character. This car was just what I wanted. It had that retro-rod look (classic with modern touches like a Matchbox Hot Wheels car). If it was concours condition and 100% true to its original, then I would be scared to death to use it in case it got wet and mucky. With this, I'm going to be happy to just enjoy driving it for what it is and as some of the rust bubbles pop up, the lacquer peels and the rubber seals perish, well I'll just get it sorted. There's always things to keep on top of with old cars.
You should see my 'Things To Do List' on this one!!! yikeshehe

biggrin You know the score with your mini!

I'm a firm believer in cars are to be driven, even if I had an original California it would be driven!

If only my flat was already sold as something like this http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C482292 would be winging its way to Swindonistan.

Love the Boss (guessed that the other day as soon as you posted so I won the thread, yay me), I just have it in my head of driving to france in a Trans Am - Bandit style (and yes I know that opens up a lot of jokes).

Gruffy what an AWESOME car mate yes
You said "it's a 1971 Holden Mach 1 Mustang Fastback" a rare beast that's for sure rofl

Just as a little bit of history that's the first car I ran into while playing barefoot rugby in NZ ... Literally all the parents parked the cars along the touch line and I got tackled into a bright yellow Mach 1 ... I can off second best hehe

Yeah Ian, I don't really understand the spec. I'm trying to find out if it's a drag setup or whether it's just been made to 'look' like that.
If it is capable of power, then it must be up in the higher rev range as the auto box seems to keep the gearing low. Lots of torque but no real umff... It's hard to explain.

It must have extreme drag radials and a stall converter for a reason having read up about them and what they're for... Launching dragsters!!! biglaugh

If any knowledgable person knows, please educate me. I'm still not sure what the censored I've bought!? Haha
It was a horrible feeling doing a deal on a car that you know nothing about. It was a massive gamble, but at least it looks nice if nothing else... scratchchin

I'm sure you wrote a lot of that yesterday, but your post disappeared. confused

I can't see why it's a gamble, unless you bought it from Bernie and Leepu.

Damn! No conspiracy theory then. hehe

As for the remark, you made it in jest, and I'm sure that's how 99% of the forum would have taken it. You're right though, unfortunately there's the odd precious darling here that would get their feelings hurt and take your wit as a personal attack on them. rolleyes
