I don't understand this constant referral to cost.
Yes, for those that DIY a huge amount can be saved. Most on here don't have that type of expertise and so rely on the aftermarket companies. Thats a totally different situation, I'd be very surprised if the actual costs were much different.
Never forget that going faster is a V squared fact, both physically and financially. For those who don't understand how much it costs to go just a few mph faster at these type of speeds perhaps you should step back a bit and do some research before commenting.
It seems apparent to me that NA is limited by ultimate power V emissions/ driveability and FI with heat issues and incorrect gearing at TR.
Personally I'd love to see a 180 mph build at TR, but if Rich is running 500 whp at 171 how much more power do you all think is needed for that extra 9 mph,and how drive able would that be on the road.
That makes some comments on here a little throwaway imo

All the 500+ bhp N/A cars than run done very well.Would love to see what a 600bhp N/A car could do at TR compared to the 600+bhp S/C cars.

Top speed and power be damned, Thunder Road has told me to get the 3.9 gears in sooner rather than later!
They work well but I think there limit would be about 170-175 depending on what power you have.

I cant say I saw any that were modded PURELY with TR in mind.
Actually I did! I fitted a £400 water/meth injection kit (which hurt me on both counts) and a £20 flat bonnet (which increased my IATS and hurt me).

TR, for me, gives me an opportunity to try and make my motor go faster and push the envelope. Its all things to all men, that's the great thing about TR and everybody gets soemthing out of it and enjoys the day.

All cars I saw were full going road cars just there too see what they did. That too me is as good a comparison as you will get.
Thats true, no drag cars on trailers.

Again, I personally am not saying the FI guys have wasted money
I did.

0.74 5th gear, with a 3.9 diff and a 6700 rev limit is 178MPH

4L60E four speed auto gearbox (In Leathermans Car) has a fourth ratio of .696

Thanks Emmaj Would that be with a cv8 box and 18" wheels or 19" wheels.

If he can hit 180 with that I'll be very impressed.

laughI thought Ringrams car was less than 600bhp.What about a 600bhp cv8 with a 3.9 diff and 7k rev limit what would be its possible speed over the mile. Thanks Xpuffin

That's with 19" wheels but not sure on the ratios, think they are stock VXR ones :s

What's the size of 18" wheels? 235/45/18?

That's for an m6, an M12 would be way down at about 155-60

245/40/18 cv8 box ratio is different to the vxr box

o4 cv8 box is a t56 I think. ive done 165 without hitting the limiter in the mile wich is set at 6.9k

That would do, unlikely to have the power to hit 178MPH anyway! More acceleration definitely needed from mine, and would make a big difference all-year round.

Ok, to keep things consistent I've calculated the 5th gear max MPH using 3.9 diff and 19" (245/35/19) wheels and 6700 limiter:

M12 (0.84) 157MPH
M6 (0.74) 178MPH
MZ6 (0.71) 185MPH

I was changing up at 7k with standard rockers. Dont want to move the limiter any higher though. (At the moment)
I can rev to 7k and have went over it, but it isnt happy up there.
At TOTB due to the gearbox problems....buzzed it to near 8k a few times when selecting the wrong gear LOL.

When you need as much power as possible to overcome drag etc at high speed to go faster, you dont want to be on the downhill slope after peak power and it's falling off..

At present, mine goes better shifting around 6700-7000rpm, depending what gear etc. Lower gears best to shift a bit early as no grip anyway.

Some do push hydraulic cams to 7500 etc, but I think moving to a solid roller will probably give the best and most reliable high rpm use, and really cant see any negatives other than cost.

Ive had several cams over the years, various engine sizes etc too. But for the most part none have been overly willing to go much beyond 7k.
I could push them, but I'd be doing just that, pushing it for the sake of pushing it.

If I had peak power close to 7k along with the ability to shift a little higher and remain on the power better, I reckon I could get damn close to 200mph in 1km.

So I am still happy to say I have a big v8. Supercharged car with 670
Get more cash get more power
And ditch that window spoiler Goldy, def not good at speed, it causes far to much turbulence behind the car, I took mine off a week after fitting it.
