so my car is finally in for the warrenty work
near southampton at the approved trader
about as much use as a chocolate tea pot
there is a wheel bearing gone some where
they cant decide which one
they cant test drive it as there is a bald ring on the outside edge of the tyre at the front
they claim illegal i claim marginal
classic sign of a wheel bearing gone on a monaro
anyway the back tyres are on 2 mm
so they want them changed as well so they can test drive it
all this because i have had to wait a month because vauxhall are messing me around making me do a 100 miletrip for any work needed my local dealer isn't qualified
and this muppet is

The Law said:
The legal minimum tread depth of the main grooves of car and similar tyres in the United Kingdom and the European Community is 1.6mm. This applies across the central three quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre.
But..... if it is illegal, just get it changed, you're going to have to anyway

If your car has illegal tyres then why should a technican drive it on the road and risk penalty points to perform diagnosis of the wheel bearing fault.

dont beleive they are
only 1 is they admit that
and that need to be 90% of the centre of the tyre which is fine
its called pulling a fast one

Sorry are you saying only 1 is illegal? In which case why should a technican risk his own licence for driving a defective car, with the resultant insurance void to boot.
My father works at a local prestiege main dealer and they frequently have cars dropped off with illegal tyres that the owners refuse to pay for. So they will not drive the car off their premises. fair enough.
If your tyres are borderline defective then why not replace them or offer to drive the technician. Plus just a thought tyres make a very odd noise when heavily worn - are you sure its a defective wheel bearing???

they say only 1 is illegal
but they want 3 changed before thay can fix the wheel bearing
i think they are just legal
i understand where splatspeed is coming from on this one.
had a similar experience and possibly with the same dealer going by the location, i was told the 2 rears are low and can't complete the service until they are changed, well i knew there was a good few mm left on the rears and this was a bit of a fast one but decided to go with it to save the hassle of getting it done later.
bad decision, car was 2hrs late from the time i was told to pick up and why....... had to wait for the bloody tyres.
interesting enough the same dealer also told me the wortec single turbo would end up costing me around 10k, mainly due to also needing ap breaks.
i am not suggesting that all dealers try to pull a fast one and get their facts wrong but those who do really let the side down.
EDIT: just adding the obvious, to be told can't service the car until the tyres are changed and then while waiting and being told the service is done, just waiting for the tyres!.. LIES

The rear two are either legal or illegal end of question.
If a front is illegal then you surely respect their decision not to drive.
In case you dont know its 3 penalty points per bald tyre, why would a technican risk his licence.
Worn tyres make a noise resembling a failed wheel bearing, you sure thats not whats doing it??
