They do not respond well to nitrous and charging... cylinder walls are too thin so I hear. Yet people keep on trying to do it...

Does the 7.0L not like added extras?.

Is the LS2 6.0 much stronger....?

Detonation will crack a piston and take the cylinder wall out as well. I've seen cracked liners before now.

Ls7 can make 650 hp with mods but it's not any stronger imo. Pistons are piss weak like any other lsx, detonate it and they will break. They are cast, not forged items.

Ls2, no better then the ls1, doubt it's any stronger and siamesing the liners doesn't seem healthy to me. All that for 300 extra cc, pah.

My original engine had a cracked cyclinder liner, was up to 700 ft-lbs before a piston exited via the exhaust, plesased I am now with forged internals...

I guess that's why the rumoured supercharged LS9 will have thicker walls and a reduced capactity of 6.2l. I'd expect them to run with forged pistons too.

It seems odd that they'd over engineer to bottom end to such a degree on the LSx series and then fit crappy pistons. Especially on the LS7 since the crank and rods are forged (steel and titanium respectively). I guess they do the job for normal levels of tune though.

I guess cost and, possibly, the idea that maybe tuners would change the pistons? Since they are high-comp pistons, any big charging will require a change anyway. Pie in the sky perhaps.

Thicker walls and no doubt siamesed liners as they will want to keep the block length short. As for the pistons, they are nice and light and are a high performance item under those normal levels of tune you mentioned. It's just that they have no additional meat in the top ring land. That saves weight and is better for emmissions. Lsx bottom ends are nice imo.
