Hey everyone got any suggestions on things like launch rpm best way to launch and pressures to run? What sort of time should I expect from running a cammed LS2 with full exhaust running about 460-470?
Thanks for any help.
Launch rpm = tickover unless you're on drag tyres. You have to baby it off the line, it's not a case of dial in 3,500rpm and drop the clutch. Thanks for any help.
Pressures, a lot of people will run high (50psi) up front (for a minimal contact patch) and as low as you feel comfortable with at the back, the lower the better, but naturally the car is going to be a bit unsettled running 15psi... So start at normal pressures, perhaps drop them 2psi at a time until you're uncomfortable
Run with a full tank of fuel, the extra weight will be outweighed by your improved launch. The 60' is the most important part of the 1/4, and it's a real mission in a Monaro (presuming it's a Monaro here)
Times for your car, I'd say low 13s to high 12s depending on how much of the red mist you see off the line... 60' times you're aiming for a 2.0 if you make a very good launch (on street tyres near normal pressure).
^^ Good advice from someone who isn't afraid to visit a 1/4 mile strip
The only thing I will add is that I used to get away with 1800-2000 rpm dialled in before dropping the clutch. This resulted in a momentary over-rotation from the wheels, and then it would hook up. The issue I had was getting the balance between wheelspin and bogging down. For me, the sweet-spot was around 2000rpm- although on different days, this would either result in a great hook-up or a lot of wheelspin.
I'm currently running a similar set up to you, albeit with slightly more power (circa 500 at the fly) and wider, VXR8 rear wheels. In the one proper run I did in this setup, I managed a 13.3 at 112.31mph. The car bogged off the line (my 60' time was 2.349), so wasn't an ideal run. As Sturdy said, a good launch is important for the 60' time, and circa 2 second 60' time is achievable. Based on this, I should be able to get into the 12s

Would the above advice apply to TR as well?
Depends if you're going for top speed or to be first across the line?Lots of wheelspin etc. can often lead to a higher terminal speed, but then it depends if you're just going to be gearing limited at the end anyway?
I'm sure someone else with TR experience can help, I've never been.
As for speed over the line, it can vary, I've only ever done 109 at Santa Pod, it is slightly uphill
I'm normally around 107/108, but I don't think I've got as much power as you or mikey.
I'm going to the RWYB at Santa Pod on the 9th August (same day as Thunder Road) if you fancy it?

Have fun and burn off a set of rears at TR
It's true what others have said the start doesn't really make a huge difference to your terminal speed. You'll probably more likely to make or break your run if you mess up the 4th to 5th shift as at that speed every tenth of a second you aren't on the power will cause a big drop in speed.

On street tyres I actually found too soft was no good. I find about 25 worked best for me.
Its all in the 60' if you can do 2.0 you are doing well and should run 12's
If not you can join the FI boys in the 13+ second range
Ignore Ringaram ding dong, his big block tuned modern VXR8 couldn't even beat some old Monaro! Its all in the 60' if you can do 2.0 you are doing well and should run 12's

USC... Good luck as its full of boy racers when I went.

Maybe you mean low tens for FI. Without trying too hard My suggestion is to run on slicks at 8.5psi, line lock, run a massive burnout, roll into pre-stage, engage the trans-brake and foot-brake, build revs to 4500rpm, wait a few seconds, jump into stage, let go of the brakes within 0.05 seconds of the green light and then hang on. Press the over boost button as soon as it hooks up. And don't forget to pull the chute as you cross the line.
How hard can it be
