Hi everyone, I just thought I would say hello!

I pick up a '55 plate Monaro from that terribly nice man James from Elite cars w/c 10th October. It has only covered some 15k miles and by the sounds of it, it has all the non-performance enhancements one would likely need. The only downside is that it's black...and I swore I would never have another black car since they are so damn difficult to keep clean...so all and any advice on how to keep a black car pristine (without just leaving it in the garage) would be appreciated.

Two immediate jobs after I pick it up:

- a visit to Blackboots in Chesham to set the geo up for fast road use...they are the mutts nuts for this sort of thing having transformed my TVR T350...and they do all the geo work for DK Engineering (Google them)
- a visit to Dave the Trimmers near Milton Keynes to replace the drivers seat bolster which has some wear marks on it. I highly recommend Dave...his workmanship is epic, he cares, and he's a really nice bloke.

Looking forward to meeting up with you all as and when, and seeking advice on this or that.

Tony

Welcome, pics are mandatory upon pick up smile

Would love to hear how you find it compares to the T350 too, I'd saved up to buy one of those when I got the Monaro, ultimately the lack of a garage and the T350's lack of a V8 swung me on to the Ro.
I will certainly let you know. The Speed 6 engine is an awesome power unit IMHO, I have had three TVR's with that engine and a Cerbera with the 4.5 ltr AJPV8. For me it's the Speed 6 all the way. Take a look at my profile for more info. Obviously the Monaro is a very different proposition; really looking forward to it's arrival....and yes, I will post up some snaps.

Well, I picked it up from James last Saturday and have now put circa 400 miles on it over the week....so it now has all of 15,490 miles on the clock! Epic. Loving it. What a hoot. Smiling at the puzzled looks on the faces of peeps mouthing "what the f**K was that"...Also thumbs up from a biker as he came alongside...very nice indeed.

Have just had those terribly nice people at Blackboot's in Chesham check and adjust the geo on it. Next job is to get the drivers bolster repaired by Dave the Trimmer.

Pictures will follow. Reg no DG55TUN and it's in Phantom Black...anyone know of the car?

By way of an update, the motor is just coming back from having a little paintwork done....scuff under front splitter and bonnet respray. Next week it's off to Dave the Trimmer to repair the drivers seat - I have managed to get a new foam seat base which is good and have also replaced the plastic trim in the boot which had a few scuffs....my OCD is alive and well!

For those of you who like trivia...as all of you know, the Monaro is known as the HSV Coupe in Auz ...however do you know who the designers were? Neil Simpson did the changes to turn a Holden Monaro into the HSV Coupe and Peter Hughes and Mike Simcoe at Holden worked on the original car. The wheels were designed by a certain Mr Julian Quincey. Who say's PH isn't educational!

Monaro now with Dave the Trimmer for the repair to the seat and side bolster. I also got hold of a new foam seat base which Dave is going to use...even with such a low mile car, I thought I would get this replaced at the same time...'like new' firm drivers seat awaits!

Incidentally, Dave told me he had an orange Monaro in for some headlining work recently...it had an after-market sun roof fitted...anyone know this motor?

After Dave, it's off to Monkfish for some bits and bobs....

An after market sunroof in a Monaro! please God no....that will be the kiss of death come resale. I remember that craze in the 1970's and 1980's it did not end well. Just my 2p worth of course.

John
Just to be crystal...I'm not getting a sunroof installed!!

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no commercial association with Dave. His workmanship is fab and he's a top bloke to boot!

MPSS from Black Boots, I am sure you know where they are wink
To add, when I had 4 new boots fitted recently, I also had 3 of the 4 wheels straightened eek might be worth having your wheels checked for true whilst having tyres fitted scratchchin
Indeed I do know where they are....1.5 miles away! And super human beings they are too!! Tks for the tip on straightening the wheels, tho I have no tell tale symptoms...vibration etc.

I was surprised that I needed 3 wheels straightened, like you, no symptoms being felt when driving, the only reason I had the wheels checked was because the guys at Monkfish had noticed one of the wheels was out of shape.
OK. Noted. Tks.

Its been a while so here's an update. The car has just come back from Paintshield:

www.paintshield.co.uk

Front of car, bonnet and wing mirrors all covered. Brilliant workmanship, thank you Ann.

Booked into M/F for a service and some more fettling on 21st April and have been collecting some bits and bobs, snaps to follow...
