Since I'm preaching to the choir here I won't go in to specifics, but.. wow.

I didn't get a chance to try the Astra VXR out (they sold it while I was in the Monaro), but to say I was impressed is an understatement. This was a '04 CV8 with a sports exhaust (a must have.. surely?!). It went like stink and made such wonderful whisperings in my ear as I drove. I was completely taken in by it.

333bhp (I guess with the exhaust it was a little more) is more than adaquate on our roads - it was very difficult to find anywhere to stretch her legs - it really only needs a 3 speed gearbox.. lol. But alas, my brain won't let me. I need a VXR in my life - why? Well, the look for one. And the extra kit - wheels, dual exhausts blah blah blah. If I don't have them then I'd probably end up spending thousands doing it myself and that isn't the point of this exercise at all! Modding.. is a no no.

So I shall report back after I've driven the Astra. Personally, I don't know how I'm going to get in that car without bias - but I must try.

Is this normal? I mean, surely a few of you were umming and ahhing until you drove one, and then haven't looked back?

Damn stupid, lovely V8!

Yes, a friend has a 3rd gen Camaro with the old 305ci lump. Makes a lot of noise, but doesn't do an awful lot. It's an attractive car though for it's size, most certainly.

The 2009 one looks great too - and the platform (Zeta?) will likely hold the next Monaro too. Yum.

Time will tell now - whether I can find one at the right money!

Well the Monaro is already dead as far as Holden is concerned. But the new platform should support the next Monaro.. should.
