I used to have an '89 Trans AM GTA and that had an 5.7 LS1 engine in it too.

It deffo sounded different to the Monaro even taking into account the power output differences (think it was about 280bhp)
Much deeper, more grumbly like you'd expect a big V8 to sound.

Ideas & thoughts?

Ok cool, ta.

I think the GTA had catback's on it...deffo was a big-ish bore twin exit system.
Sounded superb.

Wasn't that the LT1 engine as opposed to the LS1?

Ah, could be, yes...apols chums...I appear to be dyslexically challenged in the small block department.
