Sounds rather like the handbrake has seized on, probably pads rusted onto the disc but possible the mechanism or the cable seized.

I think you have two options.

One is to stick it in first gear, drop the clutch, and see whether the brakes unseize before your transmission breaks. If you have any sense at all you will not do this, at most you will give it a firm pull against the clutch to see whether it is going to move. Remember if it does let go you will have a lot of torque on so don't go wheel spinning through the far wall of the garage.

The second approach, which is far safer, is to jack the rear wheels up one at a time, confirm that it is the rear wheels which are sticking, take the wheels off, and work back through the brake system until you find the bit which is stuck on. (My money would be the handbrake pads rusted onto the face of the disc, which would be easily fixed with a mallet.) But I don't know if you can even see the handbrake pads on yours. Doesn't the Cerbera use a separate drum for the handbrake? Is yours the same?

Can see the pads/discs and think your right in that the rears have rusted on to the discs but I can move it back and forward so they are released......just tht they are staying 'applied' so its like moving it around with your foot on your brake. Not sure how to get them to release completely again?

Are you saying that you can move the car but the brakes are dragging a bit? Or you can rock the car just enough to show the rear disc moving relative to the pad but it won't roll any distance? Or what?

I can move it back or forward a couple of feet (or more if I try I guess) by giving it plenty of power but it certainly will not roll......as soon as you take your foot off the gas it stops moving and stalls unless you dip the clutch in time.

Just seems as though they are permanently on at the back but obviously not so hard that you cant move it with a bit of throttle......certainly couldnt drive it though.

If they are just dragging go for a slow drive on a quiet road and just keep pumping the brakes by stopping, starting, stopping, starting.
My rear brakes lock up a bit after only two days of non use, but they aways release with a thud as soon as I reverse out of my drive.

Know what you mean guys as I have had them drag before and as you say they sort themselves out pretty quickly, just never had them like this before. Imagine your trying to drive the car with the handbrake full on which seems to be the case with mine......can move it if you force it but as soon as you take your foot off the power it will stop immediately.

I have to admit that, if leaving my Tam for a while, I don't even put the handbrake on in the garage, but slide a block under the rear tyre.
I would get you's checked out by an understanding garage though, see if one of their guys can pop over,, been know to happen!

(Lovely car, btw Rob )

Thanks Chris i'll see what I can sort out in the morning. Most gutting thing is I had my new sports exhaust delivered today from TVR Power so it looks like i'll be putting it on the car tomorrow and then just sitting in the garage

Bugger ,, I do hope it's something silly and simple to sort out,, I HATE this weather with the consistantly wet roads, they don't help matters one iota!!!! (seems to have rained virtually non stop since I part exed my Chim for the Tam last April!!!!)

Agreed - I usually stick it into 4th. and leave the hand brake off - it's a good habit to get into for track days as well, to prevent warping hot discs after a track session.

You could always grease the brake discs

Not the pads seized onto the discs then, sounds as if the handbrake mechanism has stuck on. If it was the cable, you might be able to release them by repeatedly applying the handbrake hard and then releasing it?

Phoned Castle this morning and they suggested using a hammer and block of wood on the rear callipers to try and release them

After several hits, then move back and forward, few more hits etc they finally released

Thanks for all the help and suggestions (apart from the greasing of the discs that is!!!!!!).

Will get cracking on the exhaust now

Rob.

Yup all done....not the best of jobs lying on a cold garage floor trying to get rusted nuts/bolts off an exhaust, but well worth it

Sounds amazing!!!! Off for a good long drive now as only had a quick spin round the block when I finished (had to do something for the missus to keep her sweet!).
