Hi everyone.
Very possibly going to be swapping the T350c for a new Sagaris soon,
Just wondered if anyone has any opinions on the close ratio gearbox option, is it worth the extra money or not any other suggestions, will spec. Air-con,full leather,T350 seats, not sure what colour yet, possibly chameleon orange,or one of the reflex colours.
Is the red top engine on all Sagaris now?

Thanks
Pete.

I have the close ratio gear box on my Tamora RR and find it makes the car much more driveable than my previous TVR's that didn't have it. It took a few miles to get used to, especially in slow traffic (which i find the CRGB helps as the car can stay in a single gear more than a standard TVR).

Red is on all 4.0 engines, blue is 3.6 Red Rose and black is standard 3.6. So yours should be red!

Why bother new? There seem to be plenty around for 8k less than new price at dealers :-)

I don't have the CR box, but it does sound appealing for those 0-100 jaunts. Personally I find the std ratios to be well spaced and don't really want to have to drop to first at every 90 degree corner on the road.

Many will say it's not worth the extra money as it is quite an expensive option. However the press cars that were sent for performance tests had the CR box fitted, so I guess it must offer some performance advantage. I've heard a rumour that it's a stronger box too but that's all it is, a rumour.

I specc'd it for my Sagaris and it does take a little getting used to. Unlike any other car I've had you can (and should for fastest progress) use first gear for tight corners. Normally first in most cars is only used for parking and pottering in traffic. The downside is that you slip the clutch more in traffic but the upside is 5 proper driving gears, not four.

Apparently first is higher than the standard second, and second higher than third etc. fifth gear is the same as standard. Some might say it doesn't accelerate as hard as you might expect in second (the usual punting gear for most cars) but that's because it's really the same as punting the standard car in third. However such is the performance that it pulls second so hard I can assure you, you'll still be impressed. The difference is the speed you'll be going when you change gear. The overall gearing is immense and it's not exactly licence friendly as large speeds are easily and deceptively reached.

I'm glad I have it but if only because it's the same spec as the 0-100-0 car. Is it worth the some 1800 quid or whatever it is nowadays? Probably not as I wouldn't expect to get a penny more for my car if I sold it. It might however persuade an interested buyer to take my car over someone else's.

It ended up as a choice between having Reflex paint and the CR box. I went for iced titanium with the CR box and I for one am a happy camper.

I have seen 62 (on the RA2 and satnav) in first before the limiter cut in, and ober 90 in 2nd, and driving in town is easier, compared to the standard box. I have found that 90% of the time (most driving done, I rarely don't go any higher than third gear!

Thanks for the replies everyone, trouble is I still am not sure what to do.
Only really looking at new as I can't find one that is just how I would want it and I really do want to try and stay with my favorite dealer if poss.
Will see if I can get a good deal on the new one they have and get a few changes to it so it will be nearer to want I want.
Does anyone think I will get a better deal on the one they have over specking another one that will have to be ordered?
Thanks.
Pete.

This is the only reason I went for the CR option - I thought it must have some performance benefits if both the press cars have it.

I must admit that the car seems far more driveable with it than without and it really makes first a useable gear. At £1800, it is an expensive option but if i'm spending upwards of £50-55k on the fastest 'new' tvr - I'd want it to be exactly that

Second hand.......

IMHP, no, CRGB not worth it.

Now, six gears, that would be nice

Yep, a good friend sold it me, from a low mileage Tuscan S, and you're right, £1800 new is too much, but, if you're buying a £55K car, I would think about it, as I do prefer it to the 'normal' box.

The CR box is worth every penny IMHO. I would not buy another TVR without it. You really notice the difference in driveability and performance when you go from a CR equipped car to one with the standard box. Having only 1 gear change to 100mph is just fantastic.

I debated a lot when ordering my Sagaris, and in hindsight I am really glad I went for the CR.

CR worth while. Had it on a T350 (3.6) and it doesn't quite work as the engine lacks the torque of the 4.0. Great on the Sagaris and would be my first tick in the options box.

Pete sorry for stating the obvious but why not ask the dealer to find aTVR with both CR box and std box? As long as its a 4ltre car if you're just trying a run to test it....especially when your spending that kind of money as you say you want the car right. get them to do a bit of work for you... they might have both in stock.

Just a thought.

Thread resurrection ...I just wonder how many cars that should have had CR boxes and the matching Diff actually left the factory and how many came out as Std and 3:46 diff . Mine was certainly one smile .

'Just wondered if anyone has any opinions on the close ratio gearbox option, is it worth the extra money or not any other suggestions,'

The above sentence from his posting intimates that he hasn't because he would be able to answer his own question I guess
