Ls Powered TVR's
Discussion
I do not think there have been enough LS powered cars for sale to enable you to tell. Have any recent model cars with LS engines been resold? The newest I am aware of was the Purple Chimaera built by PHer Jellison, which has been featured a fair bit in the past.
Personally, as long as the conversion was well done, I do not think it would affect the value either way.

Private or Dealer?Rob
Through a dealer I would say no.
Private, if the LS conversion was a proven job from a known entity with plenty of examples out there then I would say it would carry its own strong niche.
If the LS is good enough for Smolenski, then I'm sure it's fine for other TVR owners.
I would reckon with sag prices been stable, if you did an LS swap for 10k then you could get most of that back when you came to sell, The only think is you'd have to aim the sale of the car to someone that wanted and well sorted weopon rather than an original. If I was in you position I would look at the LS option and 4.3 power. I'd price them both up and see what was what.
I think that a Sag would NOT add value. A cerb I think it would.
A 98 cerb bought for £10K in a poorly state and add £10K for the conversion, then it would be worth £20K to someone.
A sag at say £35K with an LS7 conversion, I cant see that being worth £45K. Maybe £37K to someone.
Speak to Raceproved and get their 'new' sag specced with an LS and get a brand new LS powered Sag on the road for £45K?

I'd much prefer a TVR with an LSx engine conversion.
An LS3 conversion in a Sag (and yes, I've done my research) would cost circa £14k. An LS7 conversion would cost considerably more - basically due to the fact that so many items need upgrading to handle the extra power, as well as the obvious extra cost of the crate engine.
Whether a £40k sag would be worth £54k just as its had a £14k engine conversion is another matter though. What price premimum an LS engined car will command is a tricky one and only time will tell.
There are those people out there which say it would turn a TVR into a moungrel, but for me, it'd be a no brainer.

Mongrel no doubt. The issue on values IMHO, would be more about an LS Sag being worth almost as much as a good S6 engined car rather than more....There are those people out there which say it would turn a TVR into a moungrel, but for me, it'd be a no brainer.
But then I'm a purist.
I think an LS Sag or any LS TVR for that matter will have its appeal but only to a minority I think. It's the sort of conversion that makes more sense financially when you're buying second hand rather than paying for it first hand. One of TVR Powers 4.3's has recently made 411bhp at the wheels so say 480bhp at the fly. The 4.5 you would have thought could make 500bhp at the fly which is LS7 power but for considerably less cost. I'm guessing it might be possible to have Powers 4.5 conversion and have it rebuilt for the cost of an LS7 conversion. In terms of reliability Powers offerings may not yet have proven reliability but they do come with a 5 year warranty - not something you're likely to get with an LS7 conversion.

I thought this conversion was nearer to £8-9K through SHPUB, although this price was for a cerbera conversion is it really that much more expensive for a SAG?.An LS3 conversion in a Sag (and yes, I've done my research) would cost circa £14k.

I think an LS is more likely to get big bhp than a TVR engine...certainly 430 plus on a S6 seems optimistic but hey when I see that on SRR or Raceproved I'll celebrate. Ultimately though outright power isnt what it should all be about. Ron Dennis was quoted in Evo comparing the McLaren F1's finesse to the silly power chasing engines of some newer supercars. He made an interesting point. Flyin Banana said:

It's something I will consider when my engine goes, IMHO a good LS7 conversion say by someone like topcats will be worth as much as a Sagaris with a rebuilt 4.3/4.5 Power engine with warranty, I'd say around the 40/45k.Rob
I'd say a Sagaris with a fked S6 is worth about 25/28k and a good LS7 conversion is going to cost you 20k, can't see you losing much money.
though 10 years from now I would say the S6 Sag will be more desirable.

may as well answer as I have an LS Sag.
I don't give a monkeys what people think or what they think about it not being original. (I would like to point out I respect John and his views and think he is a great guy and look forward to him coming out in my Sag later this month)
I had my car built as I thought it would make a great car even better and I believe I have achieved this. I think the speed six is a good engine and I had no problems with it. A LS3 to me was a good alternative but it was just a half way house, if I was going to do it I may as well go the whole way but please please do not think this is a cheap conversion.
I am lucky as I do not need to worry about the value of the car either now or in the future, the car will be with me for a very long time if not forever. I do not care if it is worth 5K or 50K, if I was not going to keep the car for a long time though I would consider keeping the car S6; remember I took the engine out of a 2008 Sagaris with 7K on the clock, it was one of the most valuable Sags there is due to that fact. What it is worth now I have no idea, all I know is, it is a great conversion done in the way I wanted and if anyone can sit next to me in the car or who has a drive and is not impressed then they are either dead or no petrol head.
