Odd characters on dash screen
Discussion
I've started getting characters appearing in odd places on the dash screen. Does anyone know what this migh be? For example on the screen where you can select a parameter to display as the big number on the right it will start of saying "Parameter" but soon after starting the car it might say "ParaParameter", there will also be other characters repeated on the screen in what appears to be random places!
I know the dash ECU can over heat and cause complete junk to be displayed on the screen but I'm seeing this from cold and at night when the outside temp is low. It is doing it with more frequency now as well!
I've had my screen replaced due to having missing lines of pixels on it and I've also had some other bits changed which caused my mileage to go up 11k miles
I think it may have just been the dash ECU but it may have been more than this, maybe it is the part they swapped out to try and resolve some previous issues with the electrics!? If it isn't one thing it is another...

There was also the door / mirror ECU down there as well as other bits and pieces.
Mine actually got worse until the screen actually stopped working completely, this happened on the morning of the trip to Le Mans which was a right pain! I had no idea of fuel, speed in km/h, oil temp etc. etc.
This was actually fixed by removing one of the dash ECU connectors while the ignition was on and then reconnecting it shortly after. It is as if it was a hard reboot. We did it one afternoon in the camp site at Le Mans helped by one of the guys who was in our group who owns his own garage (non TVR) who actually suggested doing this. Unfortunately I can't recall which one he disconnected. I had tried to completely disconnect it previously with ignition off and it didn't seem to have an effect, but I never did it with the iginition on. Worth a shot?

I tried removing both ribbon connectors with the ignition off but it made no difference.
I then removed and reconnected the rearmost ribbon connector with the ignition turned on and it has solved the problem
thanks
Glad I could be of assistance! This is a useful tip which should really be put in the general FAQ or something as I had not read about this on PistonHeads before and it would have saved me from many hours of frustration with my dash.I then removed and reconnected the rearmost ribbon connector with the ignition turned on and it has solved the problem
thanks
I hope your knuckles survived
