looking to buy a sagaris
Discussion
Good plan :-)
The T350 is a great car, but you'll need to test both and decide whether the extra cost of the Sagaris is worth it to you.
Engines - Other than get a good TVR specialist to give any prospective purchase a once over, there is not much else you can do. Just dream of needing a rebuild as an axcuse to get a 4.3 upgrade. I think that is what most of us owners actually do now - we don't dread this happening, we secretly want to be able to justify an upgrade
The later Speed Six engines are pretty good and are tainted by all the problems of the early engines from 2000/2001.

Rebuild - to be honest, you can't unless it's making a really bad noise, but if the car has been looked after on the outside, then hopefully it would be the same on the inside.
Finally, I seem to remember that it is very difficult to register TVR's in France - I may be wrong, but I think people have had issues.

thanks for your opinion.
i'm going to decide next week what to do.
the t350 are cheapper and will maybe give me 90% of the pleaser of a sagaris.but a sagaris is a sagaris, a car from hell i must think about that
Very true.i'm going to decide next week what to do.

Indeed be aware that it's virtually impossible to register these cars in France.
Where abouts are you?
I live in France (I am English) and the thing that keeps stopping me from buying a TVR is the lack of backup in France when things go wrong. I live around 40 minutes south of Le Mans near Tours and there isn't a garage around here that will touch a TVR. In Le Mans there are loads of specialist garages, but none with knowledge of the straight 6 etc and they are all very reluctant to touch one. This as you can appreciate doesn’t fill me with confidence. A shame as said I’d have a T350, Tuscan S or Sagaris by the time I was forty, bloody forty next week.
As for registering it, it can end up being department specific. I looked in to registering a Tuscan, spoke to the DIRIE and they couldn't see a problem getting it on French plates. However I've heard of people having nightmares in other departments.
Funnily enough I went and bought an Elise (drive one before you die) R instead, at least they are well supported in the area I live.

There won’t be too much difference between the cars and you will be happy with each ever you choose. It’s more a choice of do you want beautiful styling or do you want bonkers yet somehow still beautiful styling. I don’t judge the cost of the car buy how much I bought it for I judge it by how much it cost me to own including what I sold it for. That way I would not think either would be more expensive as they both depreciate slowly and cost the same to service and run.
If you are worried about the engine get a rebuild before you take it France with a 3year warranty or source a car that has had a rebuild. Ps you have picked a good time to be looking for a Sagaris. There is a wonderful selection of colours available at the moment.

i'm from south of france (nimes) and i had 7 lotus exige elise and 340r with honda and vhpd engine. lotus are fanatstic cars, but want to change now.
my last one was an exige s1 with honda supercharged and 300 hp for 850 kg. but i loose my driving licence 2 weeks ago with, and for 2 months. so i sale the car and i want something that is beautiful and with a magic sound, and drive slowly for pleasure.
it's true that is very very difficult to register a sagaris or t350 in france. but well by the past i register a westfield xtr2 so... nothing impossible . but it take about 8 month to do it.

in the tvr there's an "ambiance" you take opleasure seeing the inside of the car when driving. you have a beautiful noise also..so i think i can try driving more slowly than my exige s1 with 300 hp.
Thats what I think is great about them, you don't have to go flat out to enjoy them, though once in awhile its nice to remind yourself of just how well they can accelerate. ERIC340R said:

Its a pitty you don't know (maybe you do) anybody in the UK that would let you register the car at their address. I have lived in France for 7 years and I have an Impreza STI and Integra Type R still on English plates registered at my mam and dads, its not illegal. I have changed the Lotus plates though!my last one was an exige s1 with honda supercharged and 300 hp for 850 kg. but i loose my driving licence 2 weeks ago with, and for 2 months. so i sale the car and i want something that is beautiful and with a magic sound, and drive slowly for pleasure.

drive with english plates with an english adress i would like.. but you need an english insurance. french insurance insure only 3 month with english plates.
Hi, I don't know who told you the above, but they are wrong, I've had my Integra Type R and STI on English plates here for 4 years. I'm insured by a French insurance company and I have a contole technique on both cars. I also had the Lotus on English plates for around a year before I changed them. My friend is a policman and he also said its not illegal. As long as the car is insured and has a French contole technique, if it's older than 4 years old. I"ve been stopped by the police loads of times, mainley just to look at the car and they commented "are you going to change the plates", "I said no" and they said "ok". I can put you in touch with a couple of insurance companies that have no problems insuring English registered cars.Gassing Station | Tamora, T350 & Sagaris | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
