Guys - hope you're all well.

I'm out in the Middle East at the moment, but things are happening with work etc out here that might see me back in Blighty fairly soon. And I've decided I'm going to spunk my severance pay on an Aston when I get back...whenever that it! Probably looking at spending around 75-80k.

My first thoughts were for an early V12 Vantage...but then I spotted the DBSs and that the price is relatively similar for a similar age/mileage example. The only thing is...I want a manual gearbox, and the price differential between auto and manual DBS seem to be quite large...which leads me to wonder if I'll have trouble selling it again afterwards if it's a manual?

I'd be grateful for your opinions...thanks in advance smile

Your first problem will be finding a manual car in the dealer network. That may answer your question. There are a few private ones about.

Hi Nick - thanks! There are 10 manuals currently advertised on PH classified, starting at 66k...obviously there won't be any when I actually want to buy one! All but one are from dealers...and two of the ones in my price range are at AM franchises. As I say, I wouldn't buy an auto...not my thing at all. But I don't want to get stuck with it when I decide to move it on. I guess it depends how many people like me there are.

Thanks,
J.

Jezza, I'm not talking from any position of authority here, other than to say that I have driven a manual DBS, and I wouldn't even consider an auto. As Nick quite rightly alludes to, you will struggle to find a manual, and that is for a reason. If you do manage to get your hands on one, in the words of the Aston Martin test driver "never, ever let it go". They are a work of art.

Anyway, I'll slink away back into my subservient 8 cylinder nail......

Sorry J

I meant "authorised AM dealers"

Two show up on the AM website but it appears "works" have a very low mileage one too that isn't showing.

B&O is evidently desirable but I only listen to Radio 5 Live so although I have it its a waste of time really

He just taps the gauge with his knuckle until the light goes out. A bit like the emission service warning in an Aston. Soon disappears if you ignore it. Probably a good thing that AM do not build planes smile

Seemon, you have no idea how close to the truth that is! I had a low engine oil pressure warning on a Lynx once, just over Copacabana Beach in Rio. I did the tapping thing, which rather unsurprisingly didn't work, I was then in the process of shutting it down when it exploded. Still, a week in Rio during carnival wasn't the worst place to be. Sadly I was dressed as a clown for the duration as I foolishly asked my mates onboard the ship to send me some clothes.....what was I thinking?! rolleyes

Having seen how quickly mine was sold by the dealer after I traded it, you'll sell it in no time.
