Wow, Rockingham's a little more basic than I imagined.
North of the Watford gap - you have to be careful up there.

Something has cropped up that I hadn't anticipated by way of our Rockingham fun day being seen as a commercial opportunity by businesses involved with the maintenance and or supply/fitting of various AM upgrade equipment etc.

Whilst I fully appreciate the business acumen wishing to be applied, for our very first privateers 'fun day' I think we should on this occasion, ask that we would rather not see any professional or semi-professional cars (on car advertisements etc) or drivers being involved.

Appreciate what your saying Bob (and I agree), but it would be good to have someone there with a supply of tyres at least.

Otherwise there could be a few people going home on canvas smile Cockers can destroy a set of tyres just by looking at them.

Come on Steve, that is totally ludicrous. Just one set hehe

Brakes is what I destroy, so it is rumoured whistle

In seriousness chaps, tyres need to have some meat on them and so do the brake pads. Any low pads need replacing as their performance is not as good when they are near to the limit, but more importantly you don't want your day curtailed with a pad warning light nono

You will find that the outer edges of tyres will get a particularly good srubbing wink

Obviously oil & water goes without saying.

Thanks for the heads up Steve/Cockers. For those with Track experience I imagine they have already given some thought to the points you raise. For the rest of us, maybe we should take heed and proceed with caution. For myself its not about breaking any track records, more about letting Vesuvius blast out, legally and safely opening the stable door on her 580 horses, giving them their heads, enjoying the sensation of her acceleration at full power and hearing her roar,,,its going to be brilliant.

Rockingham is probably the worst circuit in the UK for tyres, it eats them. This is due to them using the same asphalt they used on the oval on the infield bits (nearly all) and this stuff is very abrasive. Have fun though, loads of grip!

I also thought this was what the day was going to be all about.

But now having second thoughts! Add the cost of tyres, brakes and insurance, looking to be an expensive day out! What exactly are the rules re insurance cover. I had thought it was just my own risk and if I bent it, my problem as my insurance will not cover it on track. But whats the form if someone bangs into me or I bang into someone else. Is it a claim or is it each to their own?

That's a very good point..... Insurance will be around £1K, I had a quote before I went to Silverstone, I chose not to have any... Tyres, I have a set of wheels for track days 18" and a supply of sticky track rubber... Brake pads will die, that's around £1K

But What will be the Gentlemanly agreement amongst us if you hit another car?? Personally I cant see this happening..... Am getting really excited about this now...... To the point where I think I might just keep the car!!!!

Just a thought, I wonder if all 30 cars went with the same insurance company?? I can smell a deal coming on???

Locktons provide track insurance as part of their standard cover. Perhaps for those that don't have such cover, they might offer a group buy for a day of cover.

Good morning everyone,,,,I'll give Locktons a call in the morning. smile

Please note: I did say to Annereed that after the 30th November she could offer any places remaining to AMOC members.
I'll confirm that to her again today.

How about we don't call it a 'Track Day' which is what the insurance company would jump on. Why don't we call it a 'Driver Awareness Training Day' and see if the insurance company take a different view.

We could say that all those attending will receive professional driver training on the day and that the whole event is based on 'Driver Training' rather than a traditional 'Track Day'.

If each attendee does at least one lap with a professional driver then we wouldn't be telling any lies.

Just a thought....

You may have a point David. What has already been declared on here has been declared but I'll pitch the enquiry along the lines you mention and see how they respond.

Perhaps some paperwork from Rockingham declaring it as a 'Driver Awareness Training Day'.

I may be wrong but most insurance companies are not that stupid. Call it what you like, your car will be going round a track so it is a track day. Misrepresenting the facts to an insurance company is not the brightest idea!
