Engines getting smaller is precisely why you should appreciate the larger cc of the V12.

Not to mention the immense torque and the fact that no car sounds better smile

George, have you heard a Ferrari V8 at full chat? Awesome. Ferrari use a flat pane crank in their engine design which gives the engines that glorious scream.

Johnny 550 with just the 5ltr conversion was producing nearly as much torque as the V12. When the induction mods and twin throttle bodies are added it will make more.

Sorry George smile

Yes, Ferrari's don't sound that good imo. They're too high pitched. The Aston is a nice low down grumbly sound which I much prefer. Comparing a modified V8 to a standard V12 isn't exactly fair either - apply the same mods to a V12 and what would happen?

BR will be offering a base 5.0GT4 engine only. Several race teams are waiting to see how Johnny goes and there are 3 road cars on the waiting list.
I'm one of those waiting to see how yours goes before I commit. Down time is critical to me (not necessarily the length), but if I agree that car will be done by x date, I wouldn't be happy at x+y.

Well, it's awesome if you like the Ferrari scream. Many don't and prefer a rumble rather than a scream, me included. An AMG Mercedes sound is more my taste than a 458 banshee scream.

Is Rockingham still looking good for the handover Mikey? Hope so, there will be a proper old racket being made that day I suspect driving.

I think that if your engine is used to bore out and rebuild to 5L then there is removal, strip, conversion to 5L, rebuild and refit to car time, which when my project was defined and 5L was in production was stated at 8 weeks for that entire process.
If a donor engine from BR is used then the engine build can happen off line meaning when the engine is completed and sat beside ramp the car can be given to BR, meaning the time you are without your car is limited to any engine removal and refit time which is about a week or so. As far as I can see.
When its a first of anything and bespoke project, BR engineer to perfection without compromise and will not release it, if it's not perfect (they rejected several parts from suppliers on Johnny due to them not meeting their standard).
When BR have perfected a product and it is 'off the peg' and its a proven part, refit time is short, they hit their deadlines. Blofeld was a bit longer as far as I can see but was the first (therefore needed engineering) new electronic damper control system project.
Johnny is in the same boat.
Mike seems pretty happy to sign up to delivery dates as part of agreeing project.

Yes George, we do. We also know that they (Rockingham) have never had to send anyone home because they are too loud, ever. Now please get your name on the list for March 21st and come have some 'legal' fun with your fellow Astonauts. smile

I can do 3-4 Cadwell Park days on my bike for the same money. And cars on track isn't my cup of tea. I wouldn't mind watching, but if I was going round it would have to be on 2 wheels else I'd get bored quite quickly smile

A very interesting project Mike.

Is the total cost going to remain secret?

It presumably must be enormous, which leaves me thinking, why not a V12VR instead?

I have probably overlooked something, perhaps the SS3.
many folk seem to see the V12V as the pinnacle of the AM vantage range..... The be all and end all of Aston ownership.. And I can understand why, it's the flagship of the range, but to me personaly I see it as a sledgehammer to crack a nut, a mismatch of engine, weight and balance....

To my mind, the V8 is the perfect balance..yes
Thank you Andy x

I'm happy to ignore all the V12 posturing from the big boys and the dinosaurs hehe

Engines are gradually going to go smaller & lighter so they are headed in the wrong direction! biggrin
