Hindhead Tunnel

In France they'd have drowned the lizards in Brandy and eaten them. Dual carriageway all the way then.
In Italy, it would have taken 10 years and about £1000m. However they would have thrown a derestricted "run what you brung" day through it on opening day as a celebration. And probably meddled with the speed cameras so you only got fined for going too slowly.
Why not just move the lizards ??In Italy, it would have taken 10 years and about £1000m. However they would have thrown a derestricted "run what you brung" day through it on opening day as a celebration. And probably meddled with the speed cameras so you only got fined for going too slowly.
At least the Italians would have all been fabulous topless former MEPs appointed by Berlussconi

To be fair Georgeous, the Spanish fixed speed cameras are all preceeded by a 3 metre sign telling you they are there, and every single one I came across in the Sierra Nevada 2 weeks ago was picked up by the Sat Nav ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
I've not seen them, and its not to far from the Sierra Nevadas, probably a 1.5 - 2 hour drive. Luckily it was my dad who was driving.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Not far from me either if someone organising a run!!
40mph limit though, that'll ease congestion. The fluid dynamics of traffic flow are pretty simple, 2 lanes at 70mph forced to slow to 40mph.. yes, it will back up. Hindhead was a pain though so this will help, just a shame we're treated like infants with the average speed cameras.

It's not far from me and have been waiting to try it out, average speed cameras are in place as a deterrent. Guess that means for around a mile at the end some folks will be going very slowly ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
I think you will find it is the Southbound pipe that opens later today and Northbound in a few days time (unless the BBC has got it wrong - not unknown).
Do you know how many average speed cameras?![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

If there are only two then yes - fast for 3/4 of the distance and very slow for 1/4 will work but if there are more it will be more difficult.
I imagine that some folks have redlined in 2nd/3rd or 4th for 3/4 of a tunnel and pottled at tickover in 2nd for the remaining 1/4....
Woop woop!! Stolen from the thread:
40mph has been used as the speed limit for the first 3 hours of tunnel running this morning, to allow cars and traffic to adapt to the new road layout.
Once it is clear that traffic is running safely, the limit will be raised to 70mph, which is where it will stay.
The 40mph signs are only to be activated when a single tunnel bore is operated in contraflow, allowing maintenance works in the other bore.
For 99% of the time, it'll be 70mph.
There are average speed check cameras at each end of the tunnel, set for 70mph traffic (what speed they will catch you at we are not told, I'd imagine 79-80)
The average speed check cameras are variable, so are able to catch you speeding when it's 70mph OR 40mph in contraflow.
Slots fifth down from sixth with a delicate touch of throttle to balance the revs, slots fourth, third, then second, check mirrors, nails it... BWAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRP!

Over in the "Thames Valley and Surrey" section they have organised a run starting at 7:00 am this Sunday. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0....40mph limit though, that'll ease congestion. I'm a bit too old to be getting up so early on a Sunday morning, so I am going to go an test the accoustics on Saturday afternoon instead. If anybody fancies getting a few Astons together, then I will happily organise a rendezvous point and somewhere where we can have a coffee afterwards.
I'll be videoing the run(s), so the sound of extra Astons would be fantastic.

Please count me in Don!! DB9 Volante with a QuickSilver Supersports should do the trick ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Early afternoon rather than late would be ideal, I shall be out on the *ahem* sauce from 5pm onwards.
