yikes 570bhp and 600nm of torque. Will make for quite a car, bet it sounds fantastic with the baffles open smile

Stage 1: February. Induction is the Aston Power Upgrade for the airbox, feeding back into a custom inlet manifold. Engine remains untouched for now. Custom exhaust manifolds, 2 x cats (compared to the 6 we currently have) much bigger pipework and then into a standard DB9 backbox so that I can have valving again (11kg gain offset by losing 4 x cats). The reason for this is that the new system will be so loud I am going to need to be able to baffle it off on demand so my Quicksilver SuperSports has to go (offers by PM please, Feb availability). It'll be on a switch - not like the current AM Fuse 22 system, but one where you can choose to baffle it through the whole rev range or leave it open at your discretion. . . . Output is expected to be 520bhp and torque will stay the same - the DB9 is optimised for torque so changing the inlets for more power would lower the torque, but the exhaust gives it back.
So the airbox and exhaust systems alone will yield an additional 50 bhp? That's fantastic! Do you know if similar increases would result if you gave the same treatment to the V12V?

That is including the inlet manifolds and of course will only yield that huge figure to a DB9 - the V12V/DBS already has much of it installed. What power you could expect you'd have to ask Mike. But in excess of the Vanquish S which is a genuine 520bhp. DB9 at 450bhp has so much further to go!

As I understand it, the work being done on my car is the prototype for all the V12 work, DB9, DBS, Rapide, V12V and Virage so the major elements of the V12 'kit' as it were, is designed to be installed on the V12 Vantage as well.

JohnG1 is popping up to see the chaps next week so he'll have some much more specific V12V answers!

Btw Yeti, is yours the 450 or 470 DB9? What is the difference between the two? (don't say 20bhp wink ) Would you end up with 590 if you started with 470? smile

How will the gearbox cope with that amount of power going through it too? Are you having it re-enforced or just leaving it as is?

Mine was born as a 450bhp (2006), Mike estimates it makes 470-480bhp due to the remap to 97/98RON, cats, backbox and filters. So my gain will be whatever it is, but the Bamford Rose mods will make it 520bhp.

Funnily enough I asked what the difference was in the 470bhp DB9 and it was some modifcications to the head, not just a remap. Kudos to Aston for doing it properly smile

Mike says the gearbox and clutch do not need any sort up strengthening - they are rock solid, properly engineered kit. The DB9 clutch is far stronger than the Vantage unit for example, it's bigger. Also the DB9 has so much more torque that less clutch slippage needs to be applied to move the car off the line, this is what uses up the Vantage clutch. I had never thought of that.

Michael, there is always something!! Although when Sarah Maynard has done my interior, Bamford Rose have done my engine... to be honest I'll struggle to find anything else!

Probably a partial retrim (more Parliament and less moonstone, 2 tone effect) and I also really want the rear seats deleted. They're very silly.

Oh, and found a guy who makes some fantastic steering wheels over on sixspeed. Really nice sculpted shape.

There is always something!

Last month... New manifolds, 200 cell cats, sports backbox, cold air induction kit with panel filter, 4 wheel alignment/Geo and new tyres, new drilled pedals and some other bits of ally tat for the interior. It's well on the way my good man smile

You don't hang about do you?! I'm considering tuning up my Polo a bit, well a re-map, sports exhaust and air filter. Should be enough to raise it from 180 to around 230ish. I'm always worried something will go wrong though, plus I think it voids the warranty so it makes me even more nervous.

From what you said at Brooklands it sounds like an awsome project. It would be great to see photos throughout the various stages of changes if possible?

Car is still with BR at the moment, as usual things taking longer than expected. Wheels are to be painted imminently and of course I need new TPMS sensors as they're the wrong type for me car and new hubs as the last set had the long bolts for the spacers... anyway, I digress.

Bad news first - I have warped my brake discs frown The Brembo GT kit has let me down badly and has really not been used hard (10 laps of Goodwood and a couple of thousand miles of motorway driving) so they're to be shipped back to Brembo for evaluation and hopefully free replacement. The long term plan is to get the Bamford Rose kit fitted anyway which exceeds the braking performance of the CCMs, proven with sums on a blackboard and everything!

Good news - the chaps at BR had a thought; why are we upgrading all the engine internals to end up with a 5935cc engine? Why not upgrade them for the same money to something that is 6500cc? So that's what they're doing, 6.5 litres of Aston madness and over 600bhp with the torque commensurate with the capacity increase so this should be the most powerful Aston Martin in existence... should be more than George's fave pin-up Vantage Le Mans and even the actual Le Mans cars wink Yes, I know it's not all about power, but it'll be a hoot, especially with a Volante body and no chavvy spoilers!

7.0 litres was on the table too but a different league of money as it would require a new crank. Also... I probably don't need it smile

Blimey, Lewis. I'm looking forward immensely to seeing this in the flesh after the work has been done.

You and me both! Going to be a an extremely fun trip down to Le Mans this year (which is the target for completion), plus I just got my idiot workmate to cover it for me so I'm away scot free for the whole extended trip smile

Don't need... but do want.. could be future proofing it for yourself and saving even more money - bet you never looked at it that way!

Sounds incredibly fun though! Will you be without a car for the Northern meet then? I would love a passenger ride when all is complete!

Totally forgot about the One-77 frown

What supercharged Vantages? The recent V8s surely aren't making 600bhp+ are they?

Fair play to them if they are, sounds like a meltdown waiting to happen...

There are two supercharged 4.3L V8Vs I know of from 6speed. One of them was dynoed at 534 whp, which likely puts brake horsepower into the mid 600s. I don't know of any problems the owner has had, except of course traction issues!
