The BBC 2 programme about Colin Macrae was a better watch.

I have a motor racing (competitor) friend who likes motoring television programmes, but only when they are about pure motoring. He does not have much of a sense of humour, so when Top Gear went 'entertainment', he could not understand what had happened, and began to dislike the programme.

His problem now, is that parts of the programme are to his liking, so he has to endure the whole thing. His hatred of the presenters being foolish with cars, is funny in itself.

I like the change from the original car only show, and enjoy the pranks.

Looking forward to seeing the Vanquish powersliding. It must be fun driving an Aston Martin, when not having to take care of the mechanical parts.

I quite enjoyed it, the P45 section went on waaaaaayyy too long but the rest of it was all ok. Its lazy, easy watching Sunday night TV so I'm all for it.

I have to say Clarkson in particular looked like an old man on last night's show... Time is catching up with him (and us all I guess).
I thought Hammond looked old and ill. Not sure hes fully recovered from his accident

More about the cars and less about your stupid boy toys please Top Gear. I think the programme needs a revamp and new presenters as it is looking a little tired (rather like the presenters). Freshen it up and give us more on the cars and their history!

Isn't TG just about the biggest show the BBC export? it makes them a fortune, why change it to suit a handful of internet car forum nerds and only have 1/100th of the audience and no other country wanting it (like Fifth Gear)?

It's not a factual show, it's entertainment with a few cars thrown in. The presenters are the show, the car is not the star anymore. And Clarkson is the producer smile

Top Gear in 'being like Top Gear' shocker! It is what it is guys, why watch it if you don't like the format?

...........Silly set-up scenes and contrived stunts. Don't care, I enjoy the dynamic of three middle aged men being silly with cars smile
Yep, intelligent reporting is generally not to be expected on TG as it is an entertainment programme which, through necessity of keeping up the viewing figures, must appeal to a very broad range of people. Little Johnny loves the silly stunts and the dream pin-up cars, Granny loves that 'Hamster' chap off all those other silly programmes, Corsa Kevin thinks he could set a record time around the TG track (in his own car) and most of us have to watch it just because there might be a good bit and you would hate to miss it first time out even tho' in 2 years time you will have seen it repeated 37 times!

As for 'the dynamic of three middle aged men being silly with cars' .....no wonder that appeals considering where we find ourselves right now! rotate

Personally I thought they made a mistake reviewing the Pagani plus the Bentley with nothing more ordinary/affordable in between - Joe Average may say there's nothing here for me, I think I'll let the missus watch 'Call the Midwife' after all frown

As for 'star' in-a-cra@py car - I'm bored of that game now 'cos yes, it is just a blatant plugging spot for their new book/film/lifestyle sleep

Still ... roll on next Sunday when we all get to lean forward in our seats anxious to hear judgement passed on AM's latest offering. Please be kind JC, JM & RH - or we may be offended & never watch again wink

Have you heard the theme music to this beautifully-crafted programme ?? What a wonderfully emotive piece of classical heaven !!! I spent most of the show on Amazon trying to pre-order the album when it comes out next month.

Tonight's choice has to be The Queen of Versailles - aka the Downfall of Mr Gould (at 10.00pm).

Apart from next Sunday when I shall be watching it, Top Gear really is for the Peter Pan's of this world biggrin

I used to get frustrated with Top Gear for being so scripted and dumbed down.

However, althought at times, last night was daft, I managed to watch it with the perspective that it is a comedy programme that involves 'cars' rather than a motoring programme. With that outlook, it's fine, and I have to admit the whole P45 thing in the den made me laugh out loud a couple of times, and that doesn't happen often.

Voice over man: "Jeremy has asked if he could get children to work in a factory"

Theo "It's sh*t, total and utter sh*t"; Voice over man "Theo thinks Jeremy's car still needs work"

That being said, I do wish there was a decent, serious motoring programme on the box.

You're right. But when Jezza and Hamster started this new and improved series of TG, it was also entertaining, yet more factual, laid back and interesting.
So the fact they're now big and popular can't possibly count as an excuse.

My 2 cents.

Absolutely spot on.
It's entertainment that has a car theme. Some parts will be good/funny to some but not to others.
On the whole I enjoyed it. There are parts that need a freshen up but overall it's a great show!
The people who poo poo it still watch it so what does that say?

And don't get me started on 5th gear. The poxy presenters and adverts ruin the programme so I never watch it.

I finally watched it. Thank fk I sky+ed it so I could skip all the bits except for the Bentley and the Huarya (even that was massively disappointing).

I'll probably do the same for the Vanquish bit next week but shan't be watching any other other episodes.
