Anyone get neighbour complaints about noise?
Discussion
Several years ago one of my neighboughs received a note from couple of other neighboughs complaining about his driving. We also live at the end of a cul-de-sacn and he found a note, written by said neighboughs kids saying something like "please slow down, we don't want to be run over when you speed up to your house". And before anyone says, i.e. Jockman, no, "one of my neighboughs received" does not mean "I received".
Anyway, the V8V is not that loud anyway I don't think. I used to have an Esprit V8 with the rear box removed; just straight pipes straight off the cats (which had been replaced with sports cats). Now that was loud ! People would turn round in the street - it would make their ears bleed !

My Nine isn't noisy when idling either (beleive it or not) but the initial start up, the flare of revs... From the silence of pre-dawn darkness to the cacophony of the rich fuelling of 8 cylinders exploding from cold, it's not far off firing a gun! Driving away isn't a problem, it's just the start up I expect.stevewushu said:
So yes, apologies first methinks. Explanation. Then garage.
Can't be much fairer than that I suppose.
"Cycling to the gym"....
No conducive to sport specific training. Undoes all the type 2b muscle fibres it has taken years to produce and replaces them with type 1 muscle fibres which are slow twitch and is detrimental to the performance of my sport.
Said like a true, decent Aston driving type of guy ( the garage and apology bit!), I LOVE the sound the Aston's make on start up, but there are times when we would all like to leave the house incognito,, so you have my sympathy Steve... One for the engineers ...a mute switch.....although I don't think it would get used much and in fairness any car would probably wake them at 5am.... Impressive commitment to your sport by the way having spent many years training in Shotokan, then Taekwondo and Wing Chun, even at my peak (a good few years back ) I wouldn't have known what 5am looked like Can't be much fairer than that I suppose.

I gave a friend of mine (he's a bit older than I am)a lift last year. I opened the garage door and got in the car. He was standing just out side the door when I started it up. His pacemaker almost stopped and he staggered back. He had certainly not been expecting such a blast.
At 5am on a still morning I should imagine it would sound like the end of the world!

I can't really agree with either side as you have a right to drive your own car (especially if you're being considerate and not gunning it at that time of the morning), but then neighbours have a right to stand up to something that is keeping them from living a normal life.

I agree with the majority on this and have been on both sides of the coin.
Whilst a group letter is not nice it does at least show it is not just one person being pedantic
OP those times are pretty antisocial and could quite easily result in a call to & visit from the Councils noise abatement team (from experience )
Whilst I love the sound many don't appreciate it even at "normal" times
The problem is there is no vacuum in the system when you start the car so the valves are open until the pump has run a while.
I wonder if the pump could be run with the ignition on or be primed by hand?
Simplest thing would be use another car I guess.
Either way it would be worth while showing some sort of consideration IMHO

What pump is this Mikey? Mine gets it's vacuum from the induction manifold! No engine running = No vacuum.Whilst a group letter is not nice it does at least show it is not just one person being pedantic

Get BR to install a remote controlled sock that covers your exhaust whenever you hit the sock switch. That way you can sock it to em and everyone's happy.
I'm a light sleeper, if I was your neighbour you'd drive me bonkers. Sorry, a fellow astoneer you are but can't find any way of defending you on this one.
