I think we know it was a generic garage as no dealer or independent would ask for £100 to check the clutch. On a V8V is is 6-7 hours labour just to drop the torque tube off and remove the flywheel housing.

Is this about the same as a DB9? Are you talking about the propshaft tunnel?

Bugger, I'm thinking about the, "other", ticking noise I have, if it take, "about", 7 odd hours to release the tunnel, then I have to at least double it for me to do it, maybe even triple it, that's 2 or 3 working days. frown

..... and I don't even know what I'm looking for ...... idea

So it's not something that the OP could consider doing ...... ?

is there any chance you could expland your explaination? Which bolt was it? If it only cost £60.00 it must have been easy to get to ....... any photos?

Good to hear that the person who found it was truthful and not wanting to replace the clutch, its good when someone resolves the problem and is genuine, may i ask who it was ..... personal friend / indie garage / franchise garage ? smile

Perhaps you could driving the car on a run and consider if you might want to keep it smile

wasnt to sure what the bolt was i have taken a photo and if i can i will upload it.

i just took it to a garage in fulham, they put it on a ramp and saw the bolt hanging which was causing the nosie, they first stated they would charge 500 to remove and take the bolt off, but one guy said they could sand the bolt down and take it off which they did so happy days.

in terms of whats next was thinking r8 (v8) but then im feeling to get range rover or x6
feeling my age at 25 feeling lazy to drive sports car would like to drive an auto and cruise smile

any suggestions.. was thinking m3 as well ??

thoughts ?

Nicholas Mee, a well known specialist is just round the corner. Literally. I guess you refuse to learn the lesson then.

I hope I never buy a car off you smile

Get a 911 Tiptronic. 2 year servicing, or just don't bother at all.

I had a Petrol V8 Supercharged, full fat RR (not a RRS) biggrin

Incredible traction, bril performance and the best ride I've ever had, loved every minute of the 4 years I had it. wish I'd never got rid of it. Took it to Germany and hit the rev limiter at 140mph and held it there for agggggges.

Utterly stunning biggrin

So where/what did they 'sand off' on this bolt? It sounds like if they could see the bolt then it was possibly a bolt from the bell housing to block/bell housing to torque tube cover.

Still strange that it was making a noise if on the outside, but then it looks pretty mashed up so was this hitting the propshaft/torque tube?

That looks seriously buggered, questions / concerns I have:-

The damage to the bolt head, was that caused by the fitters during removal?
What state is the housing in torque tube or bell housing, either due to the fitters or driving with a loose bolt?
If the bolt was hitting rotating component (prop or similar) what state is that component in?

Any chance of some pictures showing where the bolt is located on the car?

Ps I drove a land rover sport auto with a v6 and a new RAV 4 when I was living in Canada (4 years), the sport just felt big, (heavy to me), the car made lots of noise but didn't go anywhere quickly. Where as the RAV felt like proper car, but with SUV styling....but get the landie on to the highway and things changed smile

Pps, how does a 24yr old able to buy let alone insure an Aston (impressive)!?!

Cheers
