Aston DBS - first time buyer

Ideally looking to put 90k behind this - I could afford the one in the link you've provided but the hit is quite possibly going to be quite hard if I churn in three years as I plan to vs. a car bought at 90k, or am I looking at this all wrong?
As a prospective owner you are right to be doing your homework, so don't feel awkward asking pertinent question At 90k, the hit is going to be hard anyway over 3 years - I spent the same and my hit was £34k some 3.5 years later. In the meantime, I had a wonderful experience and met a lot of top people on this forum, many of whom I fully intend stalking for many years to come
Oh, and I became an alcoholic.
Indeed, the only reason I sold the DB9 was down to a disastrous financial decision I made but, hey, for better for worse...for richer for poorer etc

What's the point of buying a car there hardly a investment unless you buy a Sagaris.
Just sold one of those, having a lovely car is about more than worrying whether it will loose or make money. Buy it because you like it and want to enjoy it just don't waste money on one that is overpriced.Laser Sag said:

Yes that's my key concern - my ignorance about the cars in general that could lead to the wrong decision. Happy to spend the money but want it to be on the right one hence all the questions.Jockman said:

I guess you're right - one of those things. Scary thought though that a 90k dbs now with 9k more miles in 3 years could be worth 55k.At 90k, the hit is going to be hard anyway over 3 years - I spent the same and my hit was £34k some 3.5 years later. That is only half-scary.
There was mention here a while back of a new Vanquish buyer, who after just 9 months did not like the car and wanted to sell.
What is that saying that powerboat racers use?
You could try a Vantage if you want an Aston Martin with possibly lower depreciation, or ask RichB whose Aston increases in value each day (but you do need to know about something called grease nipples).

From a depreciation point of view ,the values have held up very well the last year and whilst they will depreciate car with low miles and the right colour will depreciate at a relatively slow rate for these types of car.
I've had mine 2 years and if I traded it in it would have cost me £12k in depreciation in 2 yers which I think is good for these sort of cars.I strongly believe that manual versions will be in a few years considered classics and will start appreciating.

Mark that seems amazing for the value of car, have you had a part exchange quote recently or is that based on your thoughts and did you buy exceptionally well in the first place? From a depreciation point of view ,the values have held up very well the last year and whilst they will depreciate car with low miles and the right colour will depreciate at a relatively slow rate for these types of car.

quote yesterday from a dealer,I bought it ok,also haveto say it was the nicest one by a distance I saw when I was looking,colour/condition etc.Edited by franki68 on Tuesday 25th March 12:46
With my Vantage, I bought it nearly new at almost 30% off list. I do plan to keep it forever, but if I kept it for 'only' 10 years, I reckon the absolute most I'd lose is 50k, so 5k a year for owning and enjoying an exceptional Aston? No brainer really.
Of course I'm not counting running costs or loss of income on capital employed or other similar logical things that are all a bit tedious.
If I was in the market for a DBS, I'd find the best specced, lowest mileage example for a bit under 100k and apply the above logic. Also a manual, they will almost certainly be worth more in a number of years.
Of course, if you like changing your cars frequently, ignore all of the above, accept that in the short term the depreciation will hurt. Then buy one anyway. (That Silver Birch one that crops up here from time to time is absolutely stunning).

Thanks franki68 - what would be your maximum for this kind of mileage, or rather what kind of discount would you expect to see to compensate?
I cant guide you on that,I just simply would not spend 100k on any car with 30k miles on it ,I would buy a slightly older car with a lot less miles on it ,What I have found running a variety of supercars over recent years is mileage is king .fusion7 said:
Cheers Jockman - what I really to get an understanding for is how much the price should be because of the higher mileage. Looking at a 2011 DBS carbon black.
If it must be black them there are two 2011 carbon blacks with under 10000 miles on ,one cayman black posted a link to and the other one is at a non Aston garage for under 100k ,they are better value.franki68 said:
