I dont think the brand of car is relevant here, its the mentality of the owner

Ive seen a wide variety of selfishly parked cars over the years, often just from owners of a new mainstream hatchback or saloon that they are particularly precious of...these are even more likely spots in the supermarket car park than a supercar

whatever car you drive, if you think you are special and deserve twice as much room as everyone else, then take it and no doubt you will attract twice as much negative attention

yes, its common sense that you try to park your car in a way that dosent leave it extra vulnerable to damage, but I wouldnt use 2 parking spaces to do it. Id find somewhere else to park, its not that important

Its just a car, and designed to be used as such, If all you do is worry about it when you leave it, buy a cheaper one you can afford not worry about next time wink
Well put.

^^^^^^^^

I suspect 99% of the population take this view whether they drive an expensive car or not...smile

As for the remaining 1%...

Well done those of you condoning this. You make the rest of us who own nice cars look as big a cock end as you.

Selfish, totally unjustifiable and unacceptable behaviour. Don't take your car to the supermarket if you're so precious about it and/or can't park properly.

It's about 2 people, at least one of whom was predictable...

I hate to play Devils Advocate, but everyone is right. The guy is a idiot for parking like that because everyone looks at him and thinks, "DB9 driver". But he is also right because if he parks in bay, the other drivers say, "DB9 driver". If he takes 2 spaces, he's a idiot, if he parks correctly, he'll get a dent.

What I tend to do is park away from the entrance door to the supermarket. My wife will squeeze into the smallest hardest space ever, if it means she can park outside of the door, I park at the other end of the carpark, AND, I tend to find a end parking spot and park, "Marginally", off centre. Looks like I just parked bad, not being a idiot.

Win - win.

I get to park my P&J with no risk of dents, and no one thinks I'm a knob.

Think we may have struck a chord with one or two of the 'generally outspoken' on here however. Conspicuous by their reluctance to continue to add to the discussion.

In the public car park in the st hole of a town close to where I work the Aston is 6 inches narrower than the space. I go there 2 or 3 times a week to go to then bank so I generally park on the double yellows on the main road outside the car park, even if there is space, as you can guarantee that some fktard will park next to me even if the car park is empty. Had a warden try and ticket me once but had a chat with him and said I'd rather pay a £30 ticket than get dings in the car. He sympathised and let me off and has never given me a ticket.

Edit: censored this place has the 7th highest obesity rate in the EU, don't really want some fat bd trying to squeeze their lard ass out of their motability funded "insert st car here" when it's parked next to me with a 6" gap.

I presume that's referring to me? I have nothing else to say on the matter that wouldn't be repeating myself. See my previous comments for my views on it before coming to ridiculous conclusions smile

Isn't the real problem that all cars are getting wider, but parking spaces are not? As far as I can see standard etiquette in a car park is for people exiting cars to slowly open their doors until they just touch the next car - on the rubbing strip if the next car has one (Aston Martins don't). They do this because pretty well no car in pretty well no parking space can open a door to a comfortable angle. Not so in the US where all spaces look like our disability parking spaces.

yep, I think youve got a point there

look at a 30 year old family saloon i.e. Vauxhall or Ford and they are the size of a "supermini" these days...

In the US on business I often drive there in hire cars, last time was in an X5 and parked in a space marked for "Compacts" and it was fine...bigger than our regular spaces for sure

of course they have a lot more room than we do on our little island......

That is part of it but I reckon spaces are also getting smaller.
Land prices are so high and many of the public place measure their size (and importance) on the number of parking spaces they can cram in frown

I liked this one

Oh yeah, of course, I can totally believe that you would squeeze your Aston into a single spot between two minivans if faced with the request from the wife to make a quick stop at the store whilst out en route. And if you did, you'd look like the cock trying to actually open your doors wide enough for you and her to get out of the vehicle,....

The only exotic owners who wouldn't consider parking like this if needs be are the ones that have someone else to go to the store for them.......

Door length is another good point
We have a habit of buying two door cars in our house
The length of the door is much longer than 4/5 door cars
This means you need more space to open the door far enought to actually get out
The Aston is the same

That is unbelievable on so many levels....that it beggars belief. I am genuinely shocked this type actually exist.
