Ahhh... right. By 'tech', you mean third-party sourced electrical equipment. If you stick 28 speakers and a DVD screen in a Kia does that make it good?I assumed you meant chassis architecture, space age materials and so on. You know, the important stuff

Firstly, may I ask your thoughts? What exactly do you mean? Or even vaguely, what do you mean?
I think ......
I think, i think ......I think ......
I thought we were talking about a 5.0 XKR, but you, "think", we are talking about a first gen 4.2 ...! Why don't we ask the man what he is comparing?
No ... wait .. I did ask, I remember now, I asked him what his thoughts were .......
Nice to have you back yeti

Multi alloy frame ..... yes you're right there, I can't think of another car on the market that has a multi alloy frame that is bonded using a machine called the, "James Bonder", how long did it take the space age material inventors to come up with that name. MaverickV12 said:

Your posts become ever odder Martin. And three times in this thread you've suggested that I am consistently rude in my posting depsite others mentioning that I'm (usually) not. Speculatore went from a 4.2 MY2000 XKR to a DB9. It was red. Click on his name. There is a picture of it.
So to clarify for you, he can compare a MY2000 4.2 XKR to a DB9. Not a 5.0 latest Gen car. Becuase he didn't have one of those.
I've clicked on his profile and I see a picture of the DB9, but nothing else. I go to his garage and there is no mention of it, his 9 looks good though.
I don't mean that your rude, you are quite, "forthright", so i do apologise if it looks like I implied you were rude. I'm sorry. Although I will be using the expression a, "weapons grade bell end", in future because i like it.

I've gone down the modding route with many past cars, spent scads of money in the process. So I understand and respect the desire to modify, even if I have to admit it is really a case of diminishing returns most of the time (see below).
With great experience and a bit of luck, I believe it is possible to improve a car with aftermarket modifications. But I have come to realize over the years that this is far from easy. More often than not, any gains made are offset by equal or worse losses in other areas.
As several have hinted, the vast majority of us are deluded if we think we need to modify our cars to extract more performance. It is we, the drivers, who require modification. Most of us who have sat next to a professional race driver on a track, or even a professional driver on the road, will realize that they are able to unlock far more of a standard car's potential and make it perform at a higher level than we could with a modified car.

OK...Just to clear things up. I went from a 2000 all steel 4.0 XKR that I had for 8 years and spent over £23,000 doing things to it (Thats why my posy was on the 'Why do we upgrade our Astons - discuss please). My first option was to change up to a new 5.0 aluminium XKR for which I went on many test drives. My 2000 XKR was immaculate and the performance awesome with the 0 - 60 under 5 seconds (Which is good for such a heavy car). But at the end of the day it was still a 12 year old car so time for a change.
I gave my car to Racing Green who sold it on my behalf so the 'Toy' garage was empty. By coincidence Harwoods were selling a manual 2007 black DB9 with sports pack. I took it for a test drive and totally forgot about the 5.0 XKR that I had my eye on.
The SATNAV in the XKR was awful with no avenue to obtain updated discs. The SATNAV in the DB9 is much better now that I have a 2012 'Volvo' disc in.
The Jaguar was a more comfortable drive and I had no issues in doing long journeys in it, something I would have second thoughts about in the '9'. The ride is much harder but also more fun. I still have trouble with the gear box in 1st & 2nd when cold but I think I am getting used to it.
From a driving perspective there isn't much of a difference in technology which actually speaks volumes as one was a 2000 car and the other a 2007. The Jag didn't have Bluetooth but had it's own phone and hands free built in AND you could control the radio from the steering wheel.
I could have bought a 2010 XKR for the same money that I paid for the '9' which would have been a safer option, but I am glad the 'Right' Aston came along at the 'Right' time otherwise I would have been just another XKR owner.

You have not driven much ....... surely .......
I have a 330ci and its years ahead of my 9. I had a Supercharged Range Rover, that was light years ahead of my 9, are you seriously justifying the tech advances of the DB9 ? My 12 year old has a SatNav on her iPhone that makes my car looks like it came out of the Stone age. She laughs when I turn it on, she even turned it OFF and used HER iPhone to get us to a birthday party a few weeks ago. My wife has a new Grand Voyager, it has more bells and whistles than the 9, the stereo, the satnav, the tech is way advanced more than mine, its a frigging Chrysler ........ !!!!
Yes, the DB9, the most technologically advanced car of the 21st Century ....... !!!!
Maverick you are starting to come across as a bit of a prick tbh.I have a 330ci and its years ahead of my 9. From my experience of 14 BMWs, albeit at 3 and 5 series level, my Aston remains far more advanced as a car.
You are obviously disappointed with your DB9 so the quicker you sell it the better for all concerned.
Big leap of faith to correlate my claim of it being the most advanced car I've ever had to your sarcastic comment that it is the most technologically advanced car this century

I think the guys that modify are the type of guys who change their cars every 6 months........they/you are never happy with their lot.......and so instead of changing the car they modify .........and good luck to them if it makes them happy..........but we all know it never will.........you will always want more
It's not for me.......but I would love a set of sports alloys for my DB9 so maybe there's a part of all of us that like to modify a little.......or in Lewis's case ...a lot

I discovered a new drink last night that I can introduce on the next drinking session! The Irish car bomb. 1/2 a Guinness with a shot of Irish whiskey in it, then a shot glass of Baileys dropped in. They sound horrible but are pretty good actually!George29 said:

Traditionally perhaps. But the whole path is now laid out for Gaydon Aston Martins, no luck required. The work has been thoroughly researched and proven by a team of ex-Aston factory engineers. There are no losses in other areas; would you care to elaborate on what you mean? quench said:

No-one is talking about going ever faster, it's about enjoying the improvements to the car, enjoying the fact that your car is better to drive. Obviously a superior driver could punt a Honda Civic everywhere faster than I could my DB9... I'll bet money I have more fun in my DB9, smug driving superiority isn't that fun I don't think.burntout said:

I'll be trying that later, sounds good! Old J rum is my new favourite drink too. Tastes exactly like Sailor Jerry's did before it changed but much cheaper

You really want to be posting that on an open forum ??
I wouldn't have expected you to know what Sailor Jerry's was.http://www.buyalcoholonline.com/products/sailor-je...
But there is now this cheaper alternative which tastes even better imo:
