Hi Bob, What shall I do about the photographer as there seems to be 'some' interest? He would like to know by Wednesday so he can blank the day off in his diary. It will only be £20 each if everyone agrees to have him there. If some of the attendees are not interested in having any photographs of their day then it obviously increases the outlay for the others.
I'm interested. MollyGTi said:
As Bins said - Bob, we are very grateful for all your hard work in putting this event together.
I doubt I am alone in feeling very upset that someone who the majority of us would rather didn't attend, plans to do so anyway. It is such a shame that we have to have this nonsense of one engineering company vs another played out on a public forum, let alone at an event that is the idea of a very well intentioned, very nice man. The majority? Yes - I am confident of that knowing how many on the list of attendees have had work done by BR or are friends of the people who have or even have future plans with BR. I am sorry to say, Mr Appleby, that your attendance at this event is confrontational and likely to tarnish an event that should be very special. I humbly ask you to reconsider and suggest you organise an event of your own instead. You have held a well-attended open day in the past - I should know as we were there - but that was before we were aware of this unfortunate bitterness and rivalry. Likewise Jon McGurk saw lots of new faces attend his get-together in December. These events were promoted through this forum so why not use it in a positive manner again?
The Rockingham track day is not a BR event but they have worked on many of our cars, in particular, the organiser's so I say that effectively you are planning to gate-crash Bob's party and I can't see that that will win you many fans or much future business.
Molly thank you for your kind words and also for your unbias and well thought thru' suggestions as to a way forward. I remain optimistic that after the current storm in a tea cup has blown itself out, Rockingham will be a great day. Do we really need helmets? I'm not so sure.
Rockingham have 20 helmets already reserved for our day. A number of us will sport our own 'Massimo Dutti' versions. I'm already looking at where I have to go to have a Joseph Wright-esque Vesuvius portrait displayed on my lid!Edited by Y100 on Monday 10th February 21:22

Hi Bob
My 4.7 GT4 Project "TeaSpoon" at BR looks like it will be completed earlier than expected and Mike says I should be good to join you at Rockingham for 21st, are you able to accommodate another enthusiast?

Blimey, looking back through this thread, it has more twists and turns than a twisty-turny thing. It developed from 'all invited' to 'just some invited' and eventually to 'some not welcome at all.'
As an example of the forum's ethos of entente cordiale, I'd say it's still work in progress.
I agree Chris, it is indeed work in progress but if I have my way we'll get there. So anyone that has anything 'helpful' to contribute, please do. I remain optimistic that this, our first private owners event will be enjoyed by everyone and give us a good understanding of how the next (Silverstone) Track Day could be better organised. As an example of the forum's ethos of entente cordiale, I'd say it's still work in progress.
My personal ethos remains one of 'everyone is welcome', just give me a little more time, please.

Any road up, I've had the original metal center console lower part sent back to me by Lancasters, so I'll bring it with me to Rockingham,,,,see you there.

I guess we are all starting to get a little excited about the big day which is looming ever closer. Bob I am sure everyone will agree that you are a star for organising it. Are any of you experiencing any fear and trepidation? I am ! Seeing my beloved last V8S smashed with a quoted £97K rebuild lasted year hangs over me like a big dark cloud. How many of us have had track time? Years ago I used to take potential customers of BMW's to a circuit for some fun, the idea being that driving on track would swing the deal, on many occasions it did. The driving never got to be too serious, though I remember getting the obligatory telling off from the officials.
Pearl is going to have a health check at B.Rose this week. So far this year I have only driven about 60 miles in her. The initial 30 miles was taken up by me feeling quite nervous, I think that it is because of the responsibility. By about 40 miles Molly declared that I was starting to drive like a tt again. God Bless Wales and the roads. Feeling re-assured by her complimentary remarks Molly then drove home. I have a fond memory of my lovely Wife saying "Look 90mph, only feels like 60."
I am sure that Bob's day will be excellent and that we will all have some fun. Really looking forward to meeting up with you all again.
From one Robert to another, you are honest to a fault. I'm sure Molly was mistaken when she read 90mph,,,confusing the 7 for a 9. Pearl is going to have a health check at B.Rose this week. Funny you should say that about nervous the first 30 miles, cos I endure similar apprehensions with Vesuvius. We need to drive our supercars more Robert. And we will for sure on the 21st March (weather permitting). There will doubtless be beginners nerves but then thats all part of the experience. It'll be great fun and when its all over at the de-brief, we can decide if we want to go ahead with Silverstone or perhaps stick with Rockingham.

Meanwhile, I am really looking forward to our track day now For the novices amongst us I thought this thread, whilst not about Rockingham, made quite interesting reading
