The Lycra clad Policeman in his silly hat was the biggest plonker of all. He revelled in being on camera while spouting PC platitudes about racist names, then got it all wrong by impounding the Kuwaiti chappie's Lambo.

Take the front numberplate issue. Either it's illegal, even on foreign plates ..............or it's not illegal and they should never have it even mentioned to them by the police - I'm not actually sure what the law is but that's what should be enforced, not this half hearted intefering which annoys everyone & pleases nobody
I know of one car that the DVLA has allowed to be used without a front number plate, the FERRARI ENZO.

Whether any other cars now have this exemption, I do not know.

During the programme we saw numerous driving offences, but were left with the impression, that there were no prosecutions at all.

There is now a widespread belief that camera speeding prosecutions, which can produce an almost 100% 'crime clear up rate', for minimal effort by the police, are preferred. So, why bother to prosecute other offences (1 offence and perhaps 1 failed prosecution), which increases the unsolved crime rate.

I was appalled recently, to read about someone who fixed a card reader to cash machines hundreds of times. An enormous sum of money was stolen in total.
The result - No points on licence (well there wouldn't be, but I am making the comparison) - no fine, - JUST A SUSPENDED SENTENCE!

Cannot blame the police for that one though, presumably the lenientcy was with the court.

Have we gone soft?

The Government could easily apply a ruling where the cars entering the UK NEED a front plate.

All the vehicles have to pass through Customs and some form of Border check so it's a simple process that any vehicle found without a plate is put to one side and not released until fitted with a front plate.

Then, should they be caught without one, it means they have purposely removed it to look cool or evade detection! = on the spot fine of £1000 - no excuses.

After all we know most of the road policing in this country is there to generate fines and fees from re-test's etc...

So any foreign car breaking any UK laws is a simple case of hand over the money!

Of course having a pocket full of cash would be a licence to drive silly, but then what would the UK benefit from in these 3 weeks the most? Slower driving and less noise or loads of CASH!!!!

I'm surprised the Mayor hasn't twigged he could make some money here.. close off some streets making a route for them to drive around and show off, but charge them £5000 a night or more!!

As for residents,, they need to go inside and close the damn windows! and put some Vivaldi on.

Just watched this;

The Arab's need to play fair and have some consideration, they would understand if the shoe was on the other foot wink
Plod needs to get some balls and enforce the laws, like the rest of Europe do to British drivers wink
If the residents feel so strongly they should confront these drivers rather than hiding behind petitions and net curtains

Prog was a bit tame and stretching a point, no Shmee to wind up either laugh

There's no skill in swinging the back end out at traffic lights - there's no skill in asking daddy to buy you a lambo - why not go to the track and we'll see what you're really made of?

Feel sorry for the residents, I'd be ordering a bazooka by now if I lived there...

As for the tourism money... meh

Any links to back that up? I'm fairly sure that an Enzo must legally display a front numberplate in the UK. The only one I've ever seen on the road did, albeit it was a sticker on one of the air intakes.

Good banter on the Guardian article. Although I've come down on the side of the drivers (mainly because of the way the toffs went about their objections by writing to the ambassador, as opposed to actually taking to the drivers), I thought this comment under the article was fair enough:

"Justin and his residents have as valid reason to complain as Greek locals have when faced with vomiting British teens having sex in their front garden."

If Justin is "an old PR man" as he states, remind me never to hire him / his firm. He's done himself no favours by getting involved in the comments under the article.

And who said kids these days couldn't multitask, eh??

It is however very impolite to vomit on a woman you are having sex with. Unlikely to lead to a repeat opportunity.

Didn't have you down as a Guardian reader commrade Adamski confused

I thought everyone here read The Telegraph or The Times (The Mirror for George) smile

I was directed to the article by a fellow forum member, above. Don't mind the Guardian tbh, but don't really have any newspaper loyalties. Being dragged up in middle-England, I'm ashamed to say I was brought up on the embarrassment to journalism that is the Daily Mail headache I'm sure the innate xenophobia displayed by the residents in the show was appreciated by DM readers.

Being the cheapskate London commuter I am now, I usually get my news from The Metro in the morning and the Standard in the evening!

Other than that, it's the BBC website or the Daily Mash for a laugh biggrin

I've alway's found the Grauniad and FT to be quiet good, like the BBC, and those other two you mention more like Fox News.

I had to chime in on that comment thread too.. of course I was only commenting on his ability to lie to millions of people on TV.

I am interested to see how he will defend the fact he claimed VERY publicly "He jabbed it in my eye, you know" whilst rubbing his wound. when clearly it rubbed against his lower front shoulder above his armpit.

I also chose a suitable username to see if he falls for that baiting too and stereotypes me on those lines ;-)

What a shame Lady Penelope didn't get out of the pink roller to tell Panda where to sling her hook.
