Is the people really just throwing insults becaue you own a certain car?

Maybe they do it because of the driver and his/her behaviour!

Maybe the question might also be "did you deserve it?"
To answer; yes, no, no.

I think perhaps you're view is different not wing a Brit. There is a culture of jealousy which is horrible here.

Ouch, did not realise that. Actually I thought it was the opposite (ie jealous in Italy but not here) and that is (or maybe now was) one of the thing I really like here

Have you never been held up by a Honda Jazz driver doing 15mph and uncontrollably shouting out, 'Get a move on grandad'? curse

Once I had been held up by a guy showing off his car in Brighton

Anyway you would then be proving my point that it is behavioural issue and not the ownerhip of a certain car attracting insults. wink
Just learned from French forum member that in France (maybe also due to the social climate) your expensive car might even be keyed but the good news is that it seems that Aston are not usually targeted

My experiences in my Astons and now my Fez have mostly been very positive. I get lots of random enthusiasts asking if they can take pictures, listen to the exhaust note, get pics of their kids near the cars etc. On one occasion a random mother asked if I wouldn't mind letting her little boy sit in the car while she took a picture, on another occasion I got talking to another random person on the street whom I ended up taking for a spin in the car. Part of the fun for me is sharing the fun and excitement of ownership. Sadly, I have had a couple of insults thrown at me. I ignore most of them but on one occasion I was driving past a pub in Ramsbottom (Lancashire) and a guy shouted out "Ya !!". This was while my little girl was in the passenger seat. Being a Bangladeshi born immigrant, I've grown up with plenty of it and I still get it to this day. I've learnt to ignore it all - my non-immigrant white Brit friends are all lovely so I know not to rise to it, but this time it really got to me as my little girl had to hear it.

I have the feeling that in the UK it's more "politicaly correct" to own a high end car than in latin europa were catholisime has set a hate for people earning money, not helped in France by our president saying "I don't like riches".to a certain extend the success is more acceptable in the UK than over here.My opinion anyway.

The Boxster I used to have was for various good reasons registered in Germany. Coming along the road one day a guy coming the other way took the trouble to roll his window down and shout 'German wker!' Must be nice for tourists, that.

Seb - it has been interesting to see your politicians squirm as they have had to declare their financial interests and then Hollande has had to backtrack on his higher rate tax band.

I once studied a paper on the relationship between Catholicism and Big Business in the 3rd Reich so it can be a valid angle to come in at but I do believe that this influence is in the wane.

Even as a Catholic myself I think I'm right in saying that conduits such as Facebook and Twitter are more relevant to most people's lives these days than the Papacy. And I'm on neither smile

Seb, to be honest, Hollande is a professional hypocrite, as are a few more of his government. Your country is so much bigger than ours, so I imagine that the views on success vary hugely from North to South and East to West.

It is a bit more polarised over here.

Hi Nick, you might be right as estern parts of France, nearer to Germany can be different, but I keep convinced that the religion, roman or protestantism has it's importance in the relation to success and money people have as it the roots of the society.
For sur we have a "very interesting" governement were the minister of finances in charge of tracking the frauds has a numbered account in Switzerland!!!!
And where it is more important to track speed offences than criminals.............love my country

Whatever produces the revenue to pay the bureaucrats......it's usually the same here. However, the wine tends to be better with you and sometimes the weather.

Of perhaps more immediate relevance is the differing approaches to colonialism between the 2 countries. Unlike the UK, the French espoused a system of direct rule from Paris which entailed reps from each if the controlled countries taking a seat in central government.

This has had a dramatic effect on French society and its approach to wealth as it continued post colonialism over the last 50 years smile
