Maybe I worry too much, but...is there any reason I shouldn't buy a car I want (Vantage with dealer FSH), even though when I phoned the dealer who carried out the last service they told me of the following:

1) Tyre sealant out of date (ok, i'm fine with that..)
2) Windscreen washers not working intermittently - further investigation required
3) Alarm sounder fault
4) Codes logged for O2 sensors - further investigation required
5) Front and rear pads worn 80%
6) Front and rear discs worn unevenly and lipped

None of the above were addressed during the service, but if the car is the right price is there any reason to be overly concerned by any specific issue?

Also, If I get a 3rd party warranty, do they check back and refuse any issues that were previously highlighted - I would assume they must do something like this?

They seem to be unrelated and/or routine replacement items, so probably nothing sinister.

I would be negotiating with the dealer, for all these faults to be corrected, before completing the purchase.

There are plenty of Vantages out there.

I personally wouldn't buy a car with so many outstanding faults. The new pads and discs are going to cost a couple of grand in parts alone.

None of those items would bother me but you might want to use it as a negotiating argument .......good luck smile

I wouldn't touch it. I would be very suspicious on how the car has been treated by the seller if all these faults have been left outstanding.

That's a daft comment........none of those items are a big deal......I would want to know why he didn't carry out the work and I would want a chunk of the price.......the only true part of Mr Richards comment is there are plenty out there

Appreciate the advice, but I have to say that I haven't found, like Lunablack, that many cars have come up close to the spec that I am after, which surprised me and makes me not want to lose a car over fairly minor things - but on the other hand, i'm slightly nervous of doing something stupid and buying trouble!

Thanks for the comments, I think i'm feeling a bit more re-assured.

Bear in mind (and I cast no doubt on the servicing dealer) but as a general observation it's the garages job to look for things that need doing. Are they actually worn to the point they need replacing or just not perfect?

CO2 sensors are a known feature, oft behind the "emissions service required" message popping up now and again on some peoples car.

Besides the washers, the rest seems like consumables. I had my front discs, pads and rear pads done for @£1200 at Trinity.

Not to say there aren't other cars out there or this is the one for you - but I purchased my car knowing I'd have to have the brakes done before / at the next service, as they were reported as "worn" at the point I purchased.

I have never in my life bought a car with so many faults. Nor will I ever.

I would walk away and not be a slave to a particular spec smile

I would walk away. My issue is I wouldn’t buy a car from someone who appears to shy away from fixing issues come service time. These are the known faults, there could be several more not noted that have also been quietly ignored.

I like to see receipts for extra niggles sorted at service time, not a load of advisories ignored.
