Hi guys.

Firstly I am new to this site. Have very much been an Aston enthusiast for many years. I have been following this site and the forums and posts by you guys for a few months now, and glad to say I have learnt a lot from all the questions and answers I have read.

Tomorrow I am picking up my first Aston Martin Vantage, black 2007 (can't wait)! Glad I negotiated and did the deal when i did, cos the guy said he has had a flurry of interest over the last week. ended up getting it from a performance car sourcing company in Surrey who had one of their clients wanting to sell it.

The car only has 15300 miles on it and full AM service history. ill have to admit it has been somewhat of a garage queen over the years. However I have done my research on this car and called all the AM dealers that it has been serviced at over the years and all have given me the thumbs up and said here has been no major issues noted on the car. Last year it had 3shocks changed under the warranty.
The last service was done about 10 months ago and has only done approx 1400 miles since.
However once I get my hands on it, I intend to drive the car regularly as a every day car..

For piece of mind and because its my first Aston, I am really keen on getting the extended warranty on my queen. At least for the first year i own it.
The company offered me 12 warranty underwritten by one of their insurers... But I opted in for a better discount and said that I will get the AM extended warranty directly from AM. I did this because as I was calling around the dealers asking about the history of the car, I negotiated pricing for the 140 point inspection that is a pre-requisite for getting the extended warranty and also for the 6th yr service that will be due shortly.
I ended up using these various dealers quotes as bargaining chips for getting a better price with my local dealer (in Reading) and ill have to admit that it worked.. Got a good price for both the service and 140 inspection check if done at the same time.

Anyway, my question is:
Do I go for the extended premium warranty. Or do I hold onto my money and hope that there is going to be no issue with the car? I am very confident that this car has been well maintained and looked after.
It's in flawless condition in and out. (Still smells of leather inside)

I don't believe the car has had a clutch change yet.. And as I understand it this is not covered under the warranty? So this will be a future additional expense.

Thank you all..

M

Hello and welcome! On that low mileage, its quite possible that daily use will raise some issues - I think other people are better placed to their view on if "garage queen" issues are likely to be the type covered under an AM warranty however.

Don't be nervous in general to use daily, mine does the same (except in snow) - on 41k now and still smells new, nothings fallen off and it hasn't ever let me down. smile

well I doubt the warranty covers any wear items and thats most of the cost of running a Vantage

actual faults are rare and usually limited to niggles, sensors misbehaving etc rather than major failures, particularly on a little used car

personally id take the risk, stick the cash in an ISA ...and have done so on my own car which Ive had since 2007 and its been out of warranty since 2009 and done over 60K miles

its had 2 wheel bearings, coolant sensor, thermostat during that time and still on original clutch

next week the 3rd set of front disks and pads will go on at its 8 year service and maybe its 3rd set of front tyres in the next 6 months

Hi and welcome, congratulations on your new car. Re the warranty question, it is raised regularly here and you will get different views. It boils down to your attitude to risk really. If you take the warranty and you don't have any issues, or issues are less than the cost of the warranty, then you will think it was not worth it. If on the other hand you take out the warranty and have many issues or a couple bigs ones, exceeding the cost of the insurance, then you will be delighted you took it out.

Just take a view and stick to it. My own car is just out of warranty, I didn't take the extended warranty. I have around £1800 to play with in terms of any issues, and if few issues, then I'm in pocket for next year too.

Congratulations, they're brilliant cars!

I bought an '08 N400 garage queen, and I'm glad I had the warranty.

I had a load of issues - noisy belt/pulley, stock brake lights, stuck petrol filler, stuck power mirrors, and more. They fixed them all without argument, including collecting and returning the car. Would have been a very different experience without the warranty. Not all Aston dealers are the same though, and I bought it through them, which might make a difference.

Wear and tear things aren't covered of course, but queens can have a LOT of relatively minor, but expensive problems that were. Se of th they'd hut have fixed cheap / for free anyway, but I doubt it.

I didn't renew it once it ran out though, I think most of the queen issues are probably resolved now.

The plus and premium warranties are good value, no doubt there. Will you need one is a simple matter of luck. Some cars never have issues, others do. As you say, for the first year you will get to know your new PJ and this will be apparent.
I think you already know what will make you comfortable. I tend to agree, get a Plus warranty for your first year of ownership and take it from there.
At least with the Plus, it will stay on the road. Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

I am on my second year now on an 09 DB9 without warranty. Like many of the Posters above, I owned mine whilst it was in Original Warranty and I know everything that has happened to the car and have treated it with respect and care during my stewardship.

You have no history with the car you are looking at. It is 6 years old. You have pieces of paper that give you an indication / flavour of its condition, no more.

In this instance I would take the Warranty if I were you smile

take the warrenty on this one...but do not pay for the inspection if having the service done...most of the 140 points are on the service schedule...

Yes you do, just for peace of mind. And that's from someone that no longer has warranty on his car. First year of Aston ownership is exciting, full of joy, with a nagging doubt of oh st what do I do if it goes wrong. Buy the peace of mind for the first year, then once you really know the car and all its loveable foibles you can make a decision in year 2 if you need it.

Buy it. I got my roadster (08) just before Christmas from a main dealer, and negotiated a two year warrenty. Since then it went back to have the lights in the door handles changed, while there they found an oil leak on the front of the engine, which was 9 hours labour, and next week it goes back for a complete new hood. Aparantly if one of the elements breaks down in the rear screen you can't change the glass!! ( I can't say I'm troubled by having a new hood, a nice addition to a four year old car) I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at the cost of that lot, so as said at the start......... Get it bought.

Ps love the car to bits, not a nano second of regret.

Many thanks all for the valuable advise. I think the general advise (except a few) is that I should get the warranty for my first year of ownership. Especially while I get used to the car, and potentially iron out any niggles that 'may' happen now that I'm going to be using this queen as a daily driver.

On the topic of AM extended warranty still... Should I go for the Plus or Premium warranty?
Is there a thread of this topic that covers the differences?

I have picked up the car today and am completely loving driving this V8.

not sure aston will let you take the warranty without the inspection. it is part of insurance stipulation. you certainly cant if the car is out of warranty as it stands. dont think you need one if you are renewing an exisiting aston warranty.
if they will then i agree dont have it because the ONLY things it covers you for or even checks are things that the warranty pays out on, it doesnt look at anything else as they dont give a flying

If you get a service, the check is free. The advice is not go pay for it.
It's free at Wilmslow with a service.
