Does anyone know anything about this car? It will be my first venture into the world of AM so any hints or tips to look out for would be very much apreciated.

Current plate is TAZ6841 but that will go. Registered '07.

If you haven't already, buy Grants book about Gaydon era Aston Martins.
EVERYTHING you need to know!

And it's always worth paying a specialist to come and inspect it. You'll be surprised (and shocked) what shows up on the on board data log...

At first glance looks good though!

What do you all think about the pricing? I'm not sure its ever had a clutch change by the sounds of it so i'm guessing it'll need a new one of those soon. I was thinking about asking the owner to get a full 140 point check at the local aston garage - if I pay for it. Is this the best way to get it checked or would you recommend something else?

Thanks for all the help.

I've viewed this car, while looking for my V8 but wasn't the one for me not the exact spec I was looking for.

Nice Chap and car was bought from an Approved Aston Dealer, so think it still has some warranty left from memory.

Yes buy the "The Definitive Guide to the New Era Aston Martin" book. It has helped me a lot in my search.

Nice looking car (albeit rather dark with all that black!) price seems about right for the age / mileage / time of year.

The clutch is a consumable item, Bogie on here has accrued 60k miles and counting on his original one, I am on 42k and still going strong on my original one as well - barring manufacturing faults, which I presume would have reared their head by now, it's down to how / where it is driven.

Happy shopping!

Looks good value to me .....you would probably get it for 34k ish and it has a warranty so why the 140point check......do a deal with the guy and speak to the dealership who serviced it in Feb, they should be able to give you all the info on it......that's a hell of a lot of car for the same price a 3 series BMW !

If you need some further reassurance then have it checked out by a trusted motor engineer

Yes clutch life is random!

Mine lasted to 55k miles before it needed changing.

And although a black Vantage is incredibly good looking, I find myself spending more time washing and waxing it than actually driving it!
Water marks, stone chips, minor scuffs, BIRD POO!!!!

If you can deal with that then all fine.

For the money it's not half bad. The mileage is fine (assuming a data check from the on-board computer doesn't highlight any tampering, as is very often the case) and you got all the gadgets and gizmos on there too.

With Astons (and probably any upmarket brand car) it's all too easy to buy the first one you see because they are all (usually) very appealing. Bide your time as there are (and will be) plenty available.

Also consider the time of year. It's summer. And seasonal car prices are high. Possibly wait a few months and you may get the same car £1k cheaper?

Thanks again for all the great feedback. I was thinking of getting the 140 point check as it would show up wearable items ? such as the clutch and pads etc that aren't covered in the warranty? I agree however this would be pointless if the warranty covers everything in the 140 point check - is this the case?

I do love the black - think it looks great but i understand its probably going to take a lot of cleaning (my last was dark blue and showed up a lot) however i'm sure cleaning an Aston is quite enjoyable especially when its your own ;-) ?

Thanks again to everyone for all the help....

It is interesting to read the comments about black, when it does appear to be the most popular colour with the new buyers.

Pre-owned dealer V8 Vantage cars at present are;

BLACK 35%
GREY 31%
BLUE 7%
SILVER 7%

How much would you typically budget to run a V8? Are they reliable? I've never owned one either. My guess here:

Clutch 2k?
4 tyres 1k?
Minor Service 600-700
Major service 1200?
Front pads 700
rears pads 400
brakes discs.....1500-2000?

Personally I'd use a specialist as I am moving away from main dealers. You seem to get a better service for less, I assume the same applies for astons?

Just trying to help him out here.

pads are £250 per axle + fitting

there is no real "major" service as such, they alternate and even when you get all the plugs replaced its like £800 at an independent

other than the £2-3K clutch (depending where you go) they are no more expensive to run than a V8 German saloon

V handy indeed. Does anyone know a decent specialist just outside north of M25 that could check out the car for potential issues?

Thanks for all the info.

some interesting items.

Black with premium sound, mileage is kind of high but just had a clutch and service.

This one has been for sale for ages, like January/February. Might be worth investigating for a bargain 2008MY.

I desperately wanted a 2007 MY Toro Red car but couldn't find one for love nor money when I was shopping so ended up with meteorite but with a obsidian / chancellor interior which really lifts it, I have no problem with black - but I don't think it shows the cars lines off the best - and a completely black interior feels cramped - again IMHO. I'd have a yellow V12S if I could biggrin
