After a long wait, I had confirmation today of a V12VS with a 7 speed manual flat shift, should I buy one?

Oh dear.
That will upset the V12 Vantage owners.
They thought they had the last NA V12 manual.

Hopefully we can get back to driving them then wink

I'd love a faster, newer V12V manual, but would I pay a full new price for one? Nope.

Bundles of torque and power from a V12 power unit....is what that car needs really a 7spd manual box?

I've heard they will be producing it in very limited numbers - between 100 and 150 or so.

I presume if you've had confirmation of the car then you've also had one of he price ?

So five forward gears and two flavours of overdrive isn't it?

Seems like a cheeky way to make some more V12 Vantages...

Well good luck to the factory, I'm sure that it's yet another nail in the "believe the marketing spin" coffin...

Manual will be offered as a spec choice when ordering a new V12VS so in that sense it will not be a limited edition. Price will probably be in line with V12VS i.e 140-150k. One of the few MY16 sportscars that will still be available with a manual gearbox. It will certainly cap the rising value of the now "not last" manual normally aspirated V12V but it is a welcoming move nevertheless for the driving enthusiast.

I also got a call. I've started building a spec against the V12S pricing today to give me an idea. I'm considering it.

I also asked the numbers question and I was informed that it won't be limited run. That said, I can't imagine the current car will be in the limelight too long given the next iteration of Vantage is around the corner and will likely feature either the twin turbo V12 or an AMG based V8. It makes sense that although they wouldn't 'limit' production to 150, it could be that it's about the number they'll actually produce if they issue a production cease order on the current car to drive numbers on the replacement.

Nope. They haven't released pricing info yet but the dealer said to expect a slight premium over MY16 prices. I was advised to use the V12S price list today, but add 1.5-3% for uplift margin.

I was in at my local dealer this morning. Sales guy drove the 7 speed manual yesterday. and he was raving about the gearbox. From what I could get from him:

1. Its got some kind of rev matching system, so you can change gear without lifting from the accelerator pedal (or drop from say 7th to 4th without killing it)
2. Its got some strange dog-leg to it
3. He loves the old V12V manual, but he thinks this 'box is much more usable, indeed he was suggesting that it could be a daily driver
4. He also thought it got the power down better than the old V12 manual
5. V8 gearknob rather than than the big metal stick currently on the V12 manual

It's not a limited edition, but clearly going to be very rare given the only people who would buy a manual V12S are the readers of this forum smile

Soooo, so tempting, but SWMBO tells me I have to sell another car first before I'm allowed to think about buying one

(But as she doesn't read this forum I can tell you the salesguy is going to give me a shout when they have one in for a test drive) smile

Yep - I dropped the bomb with her indoors too and her face was priceless. I had to explain that I'd be buying the same thing again with more horses. It took a while and eventually I ran out of puppets and crayons. I'm not sure she's onboard....

I could be hooked on this as well as I always regretted having sold my V12V. But Aston is giving me a hard choice:

V12V Manual
New DB11

or

Vanquish with the 8 speed tt

virtually all to be had around the 150k mark.

an that is before you start looking at MCL, Porsche and Ferrari. 150k - 175k is getting a crowded space.

Great news for the manual gearbox fans and bad news for values of the original V12 Vantage which were on the up till now.
I still think SportshiftIII is the right gearbox for the V12VS, manual option is there to sell a few more to manual gearbox diehards before the car's replacement.
If I had been given the choice of gearbox when I bought mine I would have certainly gone manual but now I'm used to SportshiftIII, I'm not going to sell mine for a manual.

I'm told the same price as V12VS coupe or roadster

That's a very good question. Given this 'flat shift' technology - I don't see how a conventional manual could do this. So maybe they've just wired the box to a stick instead of paddles.
