Bertone Jet 2

Italians turn Vanquish into 2+2

Bertone have been having some fun with Aston Martins again.

This time, they've hacked about with an Aston Martin Vanquish to bring us the "Bertone Jet 2". It has the same mechanical lay out and the floorpan structure as the Vanquish but has had the wheel base has been lengthened by 21cm to allow two rear seats to be added.

"We always have to explore the limits of the brand -explained Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin- and this Bertone Jet 2 is a very interesting concept. There are a number of ideas we could perhaps consider in the future. That's why Aston Martin supported this ."

Bertone aim to highlight how manufacturers can diversify their own range by preparing "custom-built" vehicles, exactly as they did in the fifties and sixties, with all the quality and safety standards of a modern automobile manufacturer.

Isn't it weird to look at? Looks like someone has photoshopped the front end of a Vanquish onto the back end of something else (scimitar?).

Ummm.........Looks like a cut and shut.

I knew I had seen that car somewhere, just like the SAAB concept car in Getaway.

I like the back, without it it would just look like every other sports car out there.

I've always liked shooting-brakes, especially Aston's, and the profile view of this is superb. Unfortunately, the rear lights have ruined it. They should have just used the coupe ones!

I think overall it is a fantastic looking car, the back end reminds me of that ford visos (new capri) concept car.

Why is it every design house thinks they can do a better aston martin? Zagato, Italdesign, now Bertone. I can't remember, has pininfarina done an aston in recent years? the only nice thing I can say about this Bertone concept is that it is better looking than that skeleton-like Italdesign twenty-twenty. Zagato can do a nice aston... DB7 zagato, AR1, vanquish roadster, all are almost as pretty as the standard astons, but very unique.

you know, reading through the posts, I think maybe the taillights are just too disruptive and un-aston. If they'd used something simple, like the tails on the vanquish zagato roadster, this could work.
