Service intervals are 6 or 9K depending which revision of GTE you get.

As long as nothing breaks, and you don't go to Toyota they're not too dreadful to run.

Grin will be huge.....

GTE? Am I being stupid? Is it the same as REV? btw - does REV stand for revolution or revision? JUst so I dont make an arse of myself.

Thanks Gaz, i really appreciate your offline mails as well!

Upon your advice, I want the coupe - the targa is a bit, er, well Dale winton might own one!

Im not too fussed on leather, it would be nice but not essential.

I am going to look at a few this weekend in order to get a feel for them.

I'll be back!

Gents!

I've just returned from my first test drive! It was a 91 on an H, GT Turbo T bar. Half leather, in black. Complete with an irritating dump valve.

It was up for 3.3 - im pretty sure i wont be buying that exmaple (overall it seemed a bit tired and I dont want a T bar), but here are my thoughts.

Suspension and ride. The car was running standard alloys (15s?) and standard suspension. The ride can only be described as bone jarring! It crashed and banged over any slight imperfecton! Is this normal? Bear in mind Im coming from a beemer with 17s and M tech suspenion - Im used to a hard ride - but this was faintly ridiculous! Are they all this bad?

Performance. It seemed pretty quick, not "rip your face off" fast, but fast enough. It didnt however, seem like it was running an extra 90bhp over the BM!The salesman seemed like he couldnt be arsed, and the test drive was very short, i.e. less than 10 mins . I assume the car as not warmed up properly, so the ECU cuts the boost?

I also noticed some white smoke on start up - the car had been standing a while (the pads had binded) - should that be a concern.

Overall opinion - I'll keep looking.

Im going to see this one tomorrow (advertised on imoc and i cant post the link)

An H/K reg will have a revision 2 engine... so only about 220bhp. Rev 3 engines have more like 250-260......

Ride should be firm, but not bone jarring, so I'd suspect dodgy suspension or modified springs on the car you drove.

It should feel pretty rapid on full boost, and the boost gauge should go off the top in every gear I think.

Plenty out there, so find one that feels right.

Red one looks good....

Is that a standard dash? Todays one had a black dash.

The gearknob would have to go, agreed.

Yeah, I spoke to him on the phone on Thursday. I'm going to see the car tomorrow afternoon. He has been let down twice by people who then went off to buy black ones, and is keen to sell so he can go travelling.

DoubleDin stereo will almost certainly be an import(if original Jap check for a wave expander-so that FM radio works here),not a prob to change to a single tho.
Gazboy's doing the right thing here.Research your car
& the owner

If you want to buy something from a forum ad,Check out the sellers previous posts-for at least the last few months. You'll probably be able to see what he's been doing to/with the car,any probs he's had with it,also get a rough Idea of driver type.Best luck for a good find.

WTF is a Greddy Type S BOV?

Anyways, I'm back! My thoughts? WOW! The car was a completely different machine to yesterdays shitter, it felt tighter than a nuns do dah!

The seller really knew his stuff - I even tried to catch him out with a few trick questions and he didnt fall for them.

Right, the car - it was the GT model (half leather? is that right?) with ABS. The car also had LSD - demonstrated when he had trouble getting it off the slippery grass. It looked rust free. Had a very decent stereo, and a bloody awful gearknob - like holding the head of a cobra! The car was standard other than an aftermarket exhaust and filter. It also had some wierd pipercross thing that vented something (fuel vapour?) to the atmosphere...anyone know what it was?

Bad points - the tax is almost up the bonnet is very slightly lighter than the rest of the car (T cut?) but hardly noticeable. Apparently its a replacement as the old one got keyed - when the guys were fitting the new one, they dropped it and creased one of the edges slightly.... hardly noticeable and easily fixed. It also needs 2 new rear tyres....235 17s! yikes! Also one of the alloys has had some of the paint (chrome?) damaged by alloy cleaner - looks ok to me but maybe needs refurb.

He said he would get a fresh MOT.

The drive? I asked if i could boot it straight away (trick question you see!) and he wanted to make sure it was warmed up. Good sign. After 5 mins or so, he let me give it the full heavo ho. My god it'll shift. It seemed to be kicking out twice the power of yesterdays effort! Also pootled about at 30 and 40 for a while and it was fine. The ride was hard, but again, better than yesterdays.

I let it idle in 2nd, and then booted it - no white smoke whatsoever.

Once back, he kept the car running for a min or two before shutting it off.

Overall, I'm VERY VERY impressed.

I want to buy it desperately - but i still havent sold mine! DAMNATION!

Its up for 3250 - i reckon i'd get it for 3 easily, is that a good price? (Seems a steal to me!)

Oh and another thing - it had been converted to display MPH - now he says the car is on 67000 miles.

BUT

The odometer says 85k. He reckons this is because the mileage up to xxxxx was in KM (say 70000 for eg) but then the remaining 15000 are in miles. Is that the correct way of doing things?

I Want that car!

Not sure about proper way as it should have been done when sva'd,because a car isnt properly sva'd doesnt necessarily mean something is wrong with it-but I would proceed with caution. Is he 1st UK owner? have you seen all the docs?& do they look kosher?-The jap auction sheet will give last km reading minus his 15k (miles)15k would be 18months or so driving?.

Sounds like a good example. Toyota Red will fade unless you keep on top of the polishing.

I'd alse be slightly concerned that it's not running stocl wheels/suspension. I'm sure it's been done correctly, but a badly setup Two will be a handful anywhere near the limit.....

Is it a case of simply getting the alignment done? The cars runs 235s at the back an 215 on the front - sound ok?

Re: Polishing is it just a case of a T cut every so often - once its faded can it be saved or is a respray needed?

Ref: the docs. He says he as all these inc the SVA and all the MOTs to back up his story. I haven't seen them, but will be checking them out if I see the car for a second time.

Cheers guys
