Which Jap Car?
Discussion
So 500,000 USD .. about quater of a million then .. hmm, think I'd be saving for a while. I was reading an article last week about WRC turbo's compared to road versions (details from Owens Developments - £12,000 vs £1,200).
You being an owner is "in" the group, so you'll know a lot of people. Me being an outsider, I'll only see the more vocal members
I'm not a willy waver, I'll only be able to tell you what I've raced against. My biggest "high" was in my old MR2 going round the inside of a 911 Turbo at the ring .. I was euphoric. My lowest point was about 15 seconds later when I was overtaken my a Megan with a roll cage

What are they like for tall people? I'm 6'4" and think i may struggle.
Cosy!A coice mod to the seating - aftermarket seat and low runners and you'be fine but leg length might be an issue. which can be overcome by adding a little length to the steering boss (e.g. removable)...

I'd say about 9 out of 10 owners I've met fall into the "wrong" type. It's unfortunate. I feel the same about the MR2 (with the Veilside kits and Lexus lights). It's a shame when good cars drop into the market for aspirational MaccyD's carpark racers.
Funny you should say that, I started a topic in general concerning this earlier today, the forums I used as examples that used to be good but now seem chav domnated were scoobynet and all the MR2 forums.I believe for exactly the reason you mentioned, the cars have now fallen into the "obtainable by chav bracket" and so the "owner club" experience and perception of the cars on the street have been ruined.
Thank god that chavs think MX5's are gay so leave them alone.

Fear for the DC2 'teggy...only the lack of a turbo and any real cachet put them off before...but thanks to Evo mag it now has the cachet!!!havoc said:

Go and have a chat with the chaps on BIGPOWER forum. Really decent bunch of blokes, very helpful and not a chav amongst them as far as i can tell. Mostly into modified Scoobys/Skylines/Supras/EVO/BMW and Ford Cossies. They seem really into trackdays/Drifting and Drag Race. Mostly professional people with a common love....BIGPOWER
ScoobieWRX I'm afraid you are all that's bad with Scooby drivers!!!.
Now back to the original question, Have you ever thought about the GTIR, I know it has a bit of a bad rep but buy a good one and you shouldn't have any problems at all, I ran mine for 4 years at 311 bhp and had no problems at all, And then another 2 years at 400 bhp on the standard engine before the ring land finally gave up the ghost.
Another good car is the R33 gts-t, I owned one for 2 years also and was loads of fun to drive, Very reliable and comfortable and also a lot of fun on roundabouts lol.
I've driven a few scooby's and they are a good car to drive but to common for my taste, Not driven an EVO so can't comment.
Supra a bit of an 80's medallion man's motor lol.
RX7 ok if you are short an thin lol, Which I'm not!!
Mr2 same as above.
At the end of the day their are just so many good car's that fall into you budget it's pretty hard to pick one winner.

My high point was being overtaken by a McLaren SLR on the long straight of the full circuit at Bedford Autodrome, what a fabulous sound as it went by full pelt My low point was being overtaken on the same long straight at Bedford by a stripped out MkII Escort in bright green and with full rollcage sounding curiously V6ish. Left me for dead. I don't think it was road legal as later on in the day i spotted the owner carting it away on a trailer

I know lots of 6'+ folks who have no problems driving their rexes. If you're too fat to fit behind the wheel though just eat less pies.
You'd save enough money then to actually be able to afford the running costs of a rex rather than a shopping trolley
just kidding of course, thought I'd join in with the bitchy tone of the thread!

You maybe right about the pies lol, I trid to get in one once but couldn't even fit though the door, I'm 6ft5" and over 20 stone though .As for running cost's you'd have to go some to compete with a 400 bhp pulsar old chap, I could of bought something with a prancing horse on the front for what I've spent lol.

personally i wouldn't have any of this jap shite and get me and Italian motor.
I used to have a V6 Alfa .. never again. I like getting to places on time, not half way there and late I liked it alot really but wasn't the best car in the world as far as reliability goes lol.
Rob
I had a 164 cloverleaf .. even came with a posh box for all the bits of trim and hose to go in when they'd fallen off. And they did fall off. Often. And then the handle came off the box.
I wasn't much of a "bodger" till that car. My tool kit was gaffa and cable ties.
To narrow down the OP's request .. a decision of FWD (Celica, FTO, Civic), RWD (MR2, 200SX, Skyline) or 4WD (Scoobie, Evo, Pulsar) would be good.
We all like our own marques & models and will never agree.
