The Denso ECU has got to be one of the very best OEM ECU's on the market for tuning. Thank crunchie Subaru had the good sense to use them. It's as capable as many aftermarket ECU's and now that you can run switchable boost maps, Launch Control, Flat Foot Shifting and up to 450bhp with the MAF + supporting mods of course, it's worth keeping. However, you can now on the 16-bit Impreza ECU's (2001-2005) run MAFLESS with switchable mapping, Launch Control, and ALS!! biggrin

For TT setups Zerosports do a turbo sequencer. I don't know how good it is compared to the the way the std ECU handles it but i've recommended he takes a look at the Zerosports. He's getting quite a delay between turbo 1 and 2 so because he cannot map it there's not a lot he can do.

Do any of you get the delay problem?

Not an issue at all with mine but I've driven older TT Legacies that had quite a flat spot - its definitely more common on older, more tired cars but there seems a degree of randomness to it.

The zerosports sequential controllers are popular with the ClubSub NZ crowd and apparently work well, basically works together with the factory control but lets you adjust the changeover points. Good reports on faster spool from downpipe upgrades too.

Another trick I've heard about (from a Subaru mechanic/engine builder) is putting a can of the official Subaru 'upper engine cleaner' (or maybe upper cylinder cleaner? I forget the exact name) through it (I think take a hose off and spray into inlet manifold while running, but not completely sure on that) to clean and free up the various control valves in the system - apparently that helps.

Bit of a thread resurrection smile
Couple of questions :

1. My daily commute is a round trip of 10 miles - hardly enough for any car to be warmed up. Might sound a daft question but is it worth buying a GTB when the MPG is likely to be 23ish?
2. What tax bracket are these cars in? Seems a bit of confusion on the web. Did it change at 2001 to £400?

It's just a pity you can't map them. I had a chap ring me today asking if i could map a 99TT. I said no. He's gone to Zen as well and they said no so i looked around for some aftermarket options for him in either piggy back or aftermarket ECU.
I know this is an old thread, but just thought I would add that it is possible to remap Legacys. There are a number of options here in Aus.

The Subaru Legacy outsells the Impreza in Japan. In the four and half years the BH/BE Legacy was produced, over 400,000 were sold around the world.
