Scooby, Evo and Skyline owners - charity rides
Discussion
Give charity rides in your car
Sporting Bears (Motor Club) organise 10 mile passenger rides at a few selected events
Not all the cars belong to club members so if you have a nice Scooby, Evo or Skyline (and do NOT drive like an idiot) why not follow the links and offer it
Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about
All money raised goes to children's charities in the UK
Thank you, Nigel
The next event is the big charity fund raiser for us:
The NEC Classic Car Show
9 -11 November
See PH Calendar
and
Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about
We're in Hall 2 now (not four as advertised)
This why we do it

To be honest I think it's a pretty good idea
Provided the event was suitable (as in it appealed to me, which as selfish as it sounds it would have to as they all seem so far away) I'd offer use of my Skyline for one should it be wanted.
The only snag being they seem to be all the way down south, so unless it's a high profile event or a weekender I couldn't really see it being viable for me, but if there's one not too far away I'll offer my car's services when the current wave of modifications is completed.
Is our jap muck really that appealing? lol

Maybe they're hosting an event in Basildon so Ferraris and Lamborghinis aren't high on peoples' wishlists. *runs*
Essex chav dream ride....... 1.0L Bling Nova with 24" chrome wheels, Lambo doors, super bigbore exhaust with sparks generator (so low to the ground it scrapes the floor) and underside ultra violet lights (good for showing up stone chips)

Thanks for your replies
Not everybody wants or can afford to go out in the exotics at all events
I think sometimes because we're around various nice cars we forget that others don't have this opportunity
Apart from the fact that Jap cars are desirable rides (I think it really kicked off with Playstation) a lot are four seaters so three people can share the cost of three rides in three different cars each taking a turn in the front
I had three lads in my rusty 1981 Capri last year (only ride I got that day) they thought it was a hoot because of the lean at every roundabout the slight tyre squeal at low speeds and the gerneral noise - four people had a bit of fun, hurt no one and raised a few bob for deserving causes and that in a rusty Crapi
A good driver by giving a good ride can "sell" other rides perhaps in their vehicle or other ride vehicles
Stu R I take your point and agree with you
Scoobywrx you’ve already got a tasty car it’s just stealth
Shadowninja we had a Fiat 500 at the NEC one year and it was very popular the only car to get applause as it left and returned the viewing area

I might be up for the Kimbolton day
Kimbolton is an excellent intro to Sporting Bears Dream Rides as the show attracts the general public rather than an all out car crowd so is more relaxed
At the NEC the right car and/or driver with literally have a queue of people waiting, which can be a real buzz
rsv gone see OP for link to full details, thanks

Dont really know any of the areas that this is being held at but may be able to take part if there is something near South Wales.

Sorry evil nearest to you are the very relaxed Evesham and Blenhiem events were you'd have plenty of time to see the rest of the show
Now, again, if you fancied the NEC you could be very busy
See OP for link to details of all three events

I was joking. I reserve the right to take the piss out of most japanese cars and TVRs because I've owned them for a considerable length of time, have spent a lot of money maintaining them, so know what they are like.

Me too, but my Jap cars have always been very good
However, English cars, well now we're talking serious money just to keep them on the road with sometimes very modest performance and appearance (not always easy to joke about this - but you have to, to keep relatively sane

Try finding a reliable 650bhp Japanese car that is cheap.

Not many 650 bhp cars are cheap and reliable
My 63 bhp Suzuki Cappuccino (embryo Viper) was a true sports car and very reliable and my wife's 64 bhp Daihatsu Copen is very reliable (neither where cheap when we bought them - they are now, of course)
You're just being greedy

Are you only interested in three box saloons or is any performance jap car of interest? I may be able to help out- it's a 2+2 so I can't get gangly 16 year olds in the back.
Thanks,

Have a look at all the photos on the link page to see the range of vehicles www.sportingbears.org.uk/DreamRide
We have classic and sports on the rides including exotics, kits, replicas, performance saloons and coupes
I've a friend with a couple of old Supra's so I know how limited the space is in the back, that's not a problem for the rides (most sports cars can only take one passenger)
I'm down your way tomorrow collecting my GT6, after more repairs, from JY Classics

Do you do anything in the north? As a club, we'd love to partake in something like this, and we've access to quite a few nice subarus to play in

Thanks Chris
We're a very small club and quite spread out over the UK, we just had a tour in Cumbria/North Yorks/Co Durham and we have the Polar Bears mostly north England and lower Scotland
But sorry no more Sporting Bears Dream Rides events other than Thirlestane Castle which is full
I know at least two of our northern members were former Scooby owners (one a three door import special)

Let me know for next time then, I'm sure a rumble of scoobys would look good on one of your events

Thanks for that
Ours was a day and a half tour (two nights sleep over) over some really excellent road that we did same time last year but this time t'other way round
I think the Scoobys would have wanted just a little more speed, altho' we went fast enough to bottom out Glenn's XK on the run several times and my newly joined exhaust and manifold are probably a little distant again
