shogun performance increase
Discussion
hi. any of you pher's know how i can increase the bhp of my 2000(ish) mitsubishi shogun petrol 3.5 v6?? it currently has 200 bhp but id like to get it up somehow. it needs a bit more!! i know there are ways of fitting chips to diesels but i cant stand diesel. i guess i could fit a performance exhaust but i want more than 6-8 bhp increase!! oh, and it has to be reasonably cheap! i dont want a whole new engine!! HELP!! thanks, simon.

At least get the exhaust changed for a Stainless steel performance unit and replace the air filter with a performance high flow air filter. That will at least sharpen up the throttle response, give you a few xtra bhp and lb/ft (10 - 15) and it will sound lovely. You will notice a difference in the way it drives. The next thing to do is get the ECU mapped or chipped to stage1. That should be worth 20% - 30% power hike with the exhaust/air filter mods and it will drive like a different car.
Jap car ECU's are very accessible and love being mapping or chipped, so you would probably get some decent results for not a lot of money. Have a look at some of the performance tuners that do add-on goodies for V6 Mitsubishi engines, there are plenty about.
Good Luck
