I went to see it last night and it's now sat outside my house!

I was worried about the mileage as well. But to drive it feels in really good shape- it's also had a re-con gearbox fitted (why he didn't mention that in the ad I have no idea) and a rebuilt diff. I've driven a few cars whilst looking for a 550i and this was the best by miles.

The wheels are terrible, and the tyres are worse! 'Runway' Chinese tat. The car came with the original style 135's, shod with decent run flats with loads of tread. Plan is to sell the awful 19's, flog the run flat tyres, refurb the 135's and get some decent rubber fitted. Not in that order but you get the idea.

Loads of kit, loads of go, really nice car. I'm very pleased. I just hope it doesn't try to bankrupt me!
Congrats!

I was slightly worried when you said you'd bought it as I was going to backtrack on my opinion on the wheels to be tactful, but you agree!

Mines on the original 135 MV2, I quite like them, keeps the car looking 'sleeper' mine came with 4 brand new Goodyear Runflats and besides my best efforts ive not got through them yet.. I'd replace (if I still have it) with non runflat Pilot Super-sports, they're pretty cheap in 245/40/18.

Mines just ticked over 100k and it feels really fit, new maf a few months back made a huge difference. Mine also had a gearbox recon at around 90k. Get some pics up.

550i Touring here...

Doesn't look too bad condition.

Negatives for me are the wheels, he seem to think they're an original option, I've never seen BMW offer anything like that bad so I think he's mistaken. It's pretty miley, and I don't really like blue.

Positives, it's got comfort seats, logic 7, and that V8!

Think it's priced keenly, got to be worth that it's the first I've seen for sale for about 6 months.

Out with the the old and in with the new.

I only just found the DTC button this month. I thought it turned the Traction Control off. Now I know better it is on constantly.

I am dreading any gearbox work on mine. I have already paid out far more than I had planned when I ended up getting a new engine block fitted.

Whooooohooooo - New owners!

Mine should tick over 80k soon.

Going to take a look at the brake fluid level, tomorrow!

And do some work on the XSi!

I still got to try and afford to refurb the summers. Failing that if cash is a bit tight, then I will just wait until next year and just keep an eye on the pressures. It seems I have a little corrosion on one of the rims. Got Spit and Polish within walking distance (although not when carrying wheels), so will save me petrol getting to Lepsons. Hope their work is as good.

Is it correct to check the engine oil level hot or cold and does anyone else notice much difference?

I check mine in the same parking spot which is pretty level and hot is on the max line while cold can be 1/3 from min.

Seems a big difference.

I cannot check my engine oil when cold. I have no dipstick and need to use idrive to check mine. Oil level only becomes available for me once the engine is warmed up.

The 550's actually have a proper dipstick, look under the scuttle over the left bank (drivers side) you'll see it poking out!

I was just ensuring you couldn't escape, on multiple threads wink

Got my brake fluid topped up (only took about 2mins to pull the appropriate covers off) and checked for leaks. Nothing obvious and warning has gone out so I'm happy again.

Will monitor the situation, just in case!

I'm just thinking out loud but more and more recently I've been looking at new (to me) cars..

I used to be a serial car swapper but I'm around 18 months into this which is a record! The only criticism of the 550 is it's maybe a bit too big? It doesn't do anything wrong.. I'm still tempted to hold onto it as it's done a lot of its depreciating and any replacement will no doubt lose more.

Ideas to replace are,

XFR - I really want 500hp, just for 500hps sake, but they're at least as big as the 550. Love them though.
ISF - Really like these but around an extra 50hp and still no LSD (early cars) could be annoying.
E92 M3 - looks like 16/17 can now pick up a nice one, would want dct but they're more money.
B8 S4 - good value cars, but would I miss the V8 and rwd, probably yes to both.
M135i - good value, rwd, tuneable, that ZF8! Really like the modern tech.

I dunno, last 2 are a bit more common maybe, but they don't have that something that the others offer, for me.

Aggghhh

I couldn't contemplate an M135i if an E55 Kompressor were a potential option. Such different ballparks.

How much is a C63 AMG these days? Also a tempting option.
