Disco3 - another contender
Top spec HSE 45k list, 38k from a broker or 28k at a dealer with an 08 plate
Value at 3 years a bit scary but possibly more sell-able then than a V8 Q7
Reliability a worry
I've heard nothing but good things about the reliability of Disco 3.
Had a Disco for nearly two years with no problems and excellent service from the dealer. Same could not be said for the Q7 it replaced. Q7 went through tyres every 7K miles.

I badly 'need' an SUV
Is there a reason why you badly need to look like a small time property developer?
And another stupid comment from you !
I guess you think Davvy should buy an old E39 530i Sport ?

I have tried to get a discount off a new X5 3.0SD for the Mrs list was £52k with all the toys on. Dealer said that still had a waiting list and wouldn't discount below £50k.

ETA : I fully expected a follow up call from them offering a bigger discount but no such luck as yet.

The guy at BMW was completely honest with me and said himself the market is stupid at the moment

He has a waiting list for X5's but will not take any in PX as the group say they cannot resell them

He also said any discount was out of the question but added that I would get a stunning second hand 6-9 month X5 if I was patient as he couldnt see the market getting better

And X5's actualy avoid band G

The Q7 could potentially drop to bugger all

Think they 'sorted' them from 06 onwards...

Any big 4 x4 is plumeting in value right now. The "book" is dropping on them in 4 figures every month.Small SUV's are losing about a grand a month, with big stuff even more. Haggle hard as the dealerscannot afford to have stock on their forecourts dropping value at that rate. A PCP is a good idea as you get a guaranteed end value thus protecting you against silly depreciation. The finance company takes any losses, whilst you gain if the car is worth more than that after the ed of the loan.

No, he should buy an old E46 330i Sport.

Or a new 535d Sport Touring or something, which is actually what I was thinking. I just found amusing how somebody 'BADLY NEEDS' an SUV, thats all smile

Or an SUV! He's already explained why he 'needs' one!

Spooky - I actually drive an E46 330 Sport Touring - youre not as thick as Id imagined
My children still live at home much as you seem to do and so with my MIL's recent change in circumstances I need to carry 6 people regularly
With our recent house move I am also struggling to get down our drive, I imagine in the winter it will become rather more treacherous out here on the moors hence the need for 4x4

I'd never imagined an SUV would be my vehicle of choice, however when my kids are 18 I expect them to go out into the world on their own and fend for themselves much as I did myself

Perhaps at this time I could flog your old man my SUV assuming youll still be living off him by then
Only if your car seat fits I suppose

Cheers

I think the current X5 has Isofix mountings as standard so no issues getting my car seat into it wink
