Agree with main v second car comment.

Main issue I have is lag and response.

For example, you are doing 40 and want an instant burst of speed, foot planted... it takes time to register, time to down shift, get on boost... not good. Im forever a petrol head unfortunately.

BUT, for what it is intended for, its great.
Would you care to clarify that?

It has two sequential turbos, therefore lag will be pretty much non existent?

It isnt an auto so why would you wait for it to kick down?

Is this an example of a die hard petrol head being clueless about the diesel car hes criticising?

laugh - Have you had a look at the cars I own?

Lag is NOT non existant, it is there, its noticeable.

It IS an auto, so you DO need to wait for it to kick down.

So, in response, this is not an example of a die hard petrol head being clueless about the diesel car I'm criticising - I've had one for months.

It IS less interesting than my Z4 and the 130i

I also have extensive experience in the 535d - similar comments but overall the car feels much better put together.

To be fair it doesn't say it's an auto on your profile, just says it's a 123d. Nice pic though smile

No, at that stage I couldnt decide if it was staying or not.

Circumstances changed and it made little sense keeping it.

I do miss it though.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I have immensely enjoyed the test drive of the 123d over the weekend, and I have just out in my order for the following:

BMW 123d M Sport 3 door in Space Grey with Black Boston Leather.

I have ordered the Professional CD player, Xenons and the M Double Spoke Style 208M 18 inch wheels.

The following choices are part of the M Sport pack, but I added them to the form as there were a number of options - Aluminium Glacier Silver Interior Trim, M Steering Wheel and exterior trim high gloss Shadowline.

Now all I need to do is wait for it to be delivered. Hopefully it won't be too long.

Do you know if there are any chips which don't affect the BMW warranty? I've heard you can get it up to 265bhp.
err.. Think you might have been fed some fanboy optimism there..? Still I'm sure you'd get it up to 265bhp once you'd replaced most of the engine.

edit: whoops forgot to say enjoy the new car smile

There's a chap on babybmw.net who's got a 123d and he's up to about 265bhp without too much effort (using a "Ptronic" box?), i think he's aiming for 300bhp though hehe

Yes, 265 'wonderland' bhp. laugh

Most of the tuning companies appear to have them up to about 250bhp and around 350lb/ft or so. I can't see them going much further without a large number of other modifications. It's a shame there's no handset-based flash unit (like Bluefin or Dreamscience) that can remap it - apparently it has to be done via the BMW software and is detectable by them even after reset.

Ecurie > I see you've ordered pretty much the same as I have, except you were able to spec leather and the Professional HU. Nice. Didn't fancy the comfort pack with parking sensors, extended lighting, auto lights, wipers and dimming RVM because of the storage cubby on the dash though?

Hi Funk

Good to see you on here too.

Yeah, I just wasn't so keen on the central storage bin. The M Sport pack comes with the rear parking sensors, the arm rest and the dimming mirror so should be OK.

Ah ok. They're not doing Bluefin for the 130 though :-(

Probably because it's already mapped very effectively. The 123d et al are mapped for low emissions and economy at present. I'll speak to Jamie at SC and see what they're working on.

A handset remap for the 123d would be perfect - there must be reasons why it hasn't been achieved yet.

In Jan it will be a proper handset like for Fords, no need to visit Superchips at all.

Perhaps I'm behind on my knowledge! Will it be detectable by BMW after being set back to standard?

Well to be fair this place

are claiming 255bhp but it looks like the graph was drawn with MSPaint .
Just sounds a lot for a 4 cylinder turbo of any sort, particularly a diesel because it's not as if diesels with that sort of specific output are common, anywhere except maybe at Le Mans. :/

Sorry if I am hijacking!!

I've been a member there for a while. I also tend to take rolling road results with a large pinch of salt... wink

Even the ST only makes about 265bhp and 345lb/ft with a remap. Doing that with a 4-pot diesel is, as you say, perhaps wishful thinking! laugh

Also try www.1addicts.com for some more info, although it is more biased towards the 125/135 as it predominantly US based.

Regarding the quality, I have been very happy with my 135i, not a single rattle, but the compartment on top of the dash does stick when I try to open it, but it is being replaced at the next service.

I love my car, and the only issue is the RFT's which at the end of the day have more benefits than negatives IMO. But they do struggle with 360bhp (remapped) in this weather!

I thought most remapped 123d's were reaching 240-250bhp? 265 sounds like BS to me unless there has been other mods?
